Bogus upgrade warnings, annoying

Has anyone else been annoyed by CCleaner sending bogus out of date software alerts? I have learned not to believe them but get sucked in "just in case" they are telling the truth. The popup arrives about once a week and says my software is out of date and may not work properly. I am running the free version but, even though I have been duped every time I click the link, I am concerned not to check. Only once have I checked (in the last 3 years) and found an actual upgrade for the free version (intermittent reinforcement). Every other time it is a plea for me to upgrade to the paid account.

I like the free version, it works for me, It is unlikely I will ever upgrade. Why not gently ask me to upgrade within the alert rather than try to scare me into thinking there is something wrong only to try to get me to buy something. I don't do business like that and won't so business with a company that does business like that.

I appreciate the service and the free version but don't like to be duped.

By "bogus" do you mean that you receive an alert saying that your CCleaner is out of date even though you are already on the latest version? (CCleaner 5.75 at the time of writing).

If you are on an earlier version number then this is a legitimate message letting you know that there is a free update.  The landing page that you end up on may suggest an upgrade to CCleaner Professional, but you can "no thanks" your way through this and end up at the free update download page.  Note that once you get to CCleaner 5.74 or higher, future version updates from that point can be automatic (unless you switch them off in Options > Updates.
