Please help! I have Asus laptop with windows 8.1. Fragmentation increases every time with defraggler, now when I analyse with defraggler, it shows that ALL free space on hard drive is red, fragmented, 97GB! Before fragmentation it was less than 15% fragmented. I've fragmented more than once trying to correct this but the fragmentation % only increases. Please help!

hello mbmaa,

have you tryed "action-->advanced-->defrag freespace (allow fragmentation)" ?

perhaps helps if you take "defrag freespace"

or

"defrag" (full defrag)

Thank you for your responses. I am trying both suggestions now, but do you think that they will help to defragment whichever huge files have been fragmented, resulting in 98GB of fragmentation on the computer? I really hope that it can be reversed.

Many thanks, and any more suggestions and/or previous experience in reversing this problem is much appreciated

it's one of those things you want know until you try.

there has been issues previously reported by users with DF leaving VSS ticked and DF causing Windows to make restore points unnecessarily.

Also, do you think that returning to a previous restore point may be an option? Could it return the computer to the previous level of fragmentation before I installed defraggler?

sadly no. that is not how restore points work.

no personal data or 3rd party software is included in a restore point.

it's purely for system files and only a handle at that - enough to take you back before an update gone bad, or to allow the PC to boot again - things of that nature.

so as to unfragging a hard drive, no, restore points don't give that functionality.
