pikkles
Been using ccleaner for years. Trying to install the new version however has been problematic. I'm using Win XP professional (32bit); firefox, chrome, explorer, etc. Security software: MS Security Essentials; spybot s/d; sandboxie etc. I uninstalled the old version, cleaned the registry, reset, etc but no joy. I've also downloaded from all the relevant websites and the same thing happens so i don't think its a corruption of the download file. I've tried different browsers. I click install (no problems); select install options (no problem); where the install progress bar should be working it seems to freeze with the google search ad. The only 'working' option is the 'back' tab at the bottom which also hangs every time and then the installer crashes. I have no idea what conflict would prevent something as user-friendly as ccleaner from installing. Attempted a complete shutdown of snort, ms sessentials, sandboxie, etc and re-tried the installer but no joy. Any ideas?

Derek891
Hello and welcome to the forum. You mention "it seems to freeze with the google search ad". I downloaded CCleaner v 4.05.4250 directly from Piriform and don't recall seeing any such ad during the install. (dvdbane just beat me to it) Don't depend on other sites to get Piriform software, they can add items you don't need or don't want. Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. Moderators Nergal Posted September 19, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 19, 2013 Hello and welcome to the forum. I think they meant the google toolbar/Chrome offer. Please attempt to download the slim build from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds as it doesn't contain the Google. a very few cases like your exist where the accept or deny option for Google's products is obscured (usually caused by too low screen resolution or increased font settings on the users' computer). As I said, the slim build has no Google so you shouldn't experience the same issue; you should note, though, that the slim build is usually released a week or more after the google enhanced installer is. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators mta Posted September 19, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 19, 2013 +1 with @Nergal on the slim build, but in the slim chance (bad pun) it doesn't help, there is the portable version to try. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
