ianc3r1
Can an SSD be de-fragmented?
yglitisch
Yes, it can be defragmented. But do you really need this? Fragmentation doesn't affect speed of SSD. Furthermore, SSD's have fixed amount of writes. So any time you write something on SSD, you literally kill it. Slowly, but... Defragmentation does this a lot. So before starting defragmentation of an SSD Defraggler asks you, are you really want to do it.
Moderators hazelnut Posted July 17, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2013 Do NOT defrag a SSD. It will reduce the life of the drive and is not neccessary for a SSD drive. It has it's own way of dealing with things. Moderators mta Posted July 17, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2013 To answer your question in post 1; yes To answer your thread title; no Absolutely no performance benefit in defragging a SSD (and why else do we defrag for anyway) If you are new to the joys of SSD ownership perhaps this will be of help http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=38632#entry234747 Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data.
