CCleaner 401 slow. Also looks for boot disc then locks up.

Recommended Posts

Good morning Piriform,

I'm a long-term user and subscriber to Piriform and value CCleaner highly. However, after viewing some photos from a back-up DVD on a Packard Bell iMedia D2525UK running Win 7-64, an email advised of CCleaner 401 which I downloaded. After installation, which went well as usual, I ran it as advised and found it a lot slower than v400, which had speeded up a lot in comparison with earlier versions.

When I went to open 'Tools', a dialogue box warned that there was no no disc in the reader and the system would not respond to any inputs. I had to use Win Task Manager to shut down the locked programs, which were listed as Piriform and CCleaner as separate items. Is CCleaner v400 still available as a stop-gap?, I have deleted it from my downloads file after I installed v401, and is there a permanent solution for the problem I have met?

Regards,

Rog

previous versions can be found on FileHippo.

There's something in Windows and has been for well over a decade that's either system cache or registry related that will usually pop-up a dialog about a missing disc after it's been used and then removed. Rebooting the computer can often get rid of those error dialogs.

Related to this topic. Updated to CCleaner v 4.1 late April. When used today to clean Win 8 64-bit and applications, hangs on cleaning history (at 2%) and will not proceed beyond this point. Uninstalled this version and re-installed v 4.0. Same problem. Any others experiencing this problem? And any suggestions as to how to proceed? Thanks..
