tasver
Hi, i've used defraggler many times and everytime i enjoyed the results of this great software, but this time in my hard driver i've a lot of steam games... I have tried to play :Team Fortress 2 but the games won't start up and the cache integrity doesn't succed Tropico 3 has all filesave corrupted and no new game work Overlord doens'nt work and now steam client want to download again the full game... Bully Scholarship edition doens'nt work and now steam client want to download again the full game... Steam Internal defrag tool ,before and after defraggler use, reported me 0% fragmentation on every-game, indeed the problem was caused by defraggler and from now i'll everytime exclude steam folder from defraggler. Can you try to resolve in future this great problem and can you insert a special defraggler profile for steam games and client? Bye In attachments My system DxDiag Sorry for my bad english
Winapp2.ini
Defraggler shouldn't have corrupted your games.. was anything else compromised? winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
tasver
It's seems really strange but nothing was corrupted except steam games... I did fast defrag and at the end of this i noticed what i've reported
Alan_B
Could Steam have interpreted Defraggler's activity as an attempt to cheat, and then fought to the death ?
Winapp2.ini
And lost Was steam running when you ran Defraggler? winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github

Alan_B
Does Steam ever truly close ? Does it not also have continuous protection for the games against copying or modifying their software ?
tasver
Yes, Steam was completely closed and i have closed all programs except microsoft security essentials my av, and internet connection was offline. Steam doesn't have any protection realtime, that prevent to copy his contents or change game file, the only system anticheat is VAC and it's protection start when start a online valve games. I found this on thread on steam forum http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22060659&postcount=
eL_PuSHeR
I've never seen this issue before. I have defragmented my games partition countless times (Steam is there too) and I haven't noticed any corruption. As it has already pointed out, make sure steam is fully closed and run a checkdisk on that drive.
tasver
I'll confirm all i have writed above... The fault is for sure of defraggler... Yesterday i run from long time a fast defrag with defraggler 2.08.373, with steam folder excluded (in order to exclude the redownloading of all games inside this folder...) but fallout new vegas steam version and all dlc and expansion location were in C:\Programs\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas and it wasn't excluded from the fast defrag... The result? I've TO REDOWNLOAD AGAIN ALL FALLOUT NEW VEGAS... Don't tell my that i was wrong, i'm Beta Tester of many open source program, IT SPecialist, Cisco Certified Network Professional and MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows 7, i'm not the usual noob user. This is the last time i use defraggler, but don't tell me the false... BYEBYE DEFRAGGLER... P.S. Steam and fallout were closed at the moment of defrag... P.P.S. This is a fresh install of windows xp s.p.3 with a new hd CAVIAR BLACK WD1001fals
nodles
Weird, on my previous setup I had none problems defragmenting drive/partition Steam and games was on. Can't test it now though, I've SSD and I've installed Steam+games there so can't (/shouldn't) defrag it.
eL_PuSHeR
Also, do not mistake Steam's GCF internal fragamentation vs regular file fragmentation. GCF files could be physically defragged on disk but internally fragmented. I think OP issue is laying elsewhere. Hardware failure?
