Eldmannen
When you talk about "edition" you probably mean "distribution". Linux is a true multi-user and multi-tasking OS. So all distributions are good for multi-tasking. Different distributions suit different people. There are some which are aimed to be easy to use, and some which are aimed for extensive security and some for simplicity, some for flexibility, etc. You can read more about Linux on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux You dont seem very familiar with Linux so you should probably try an easy-to-use distribution. Ubuntu Linux is probably a good choice. http://www.ubuntu.com/ Knoppix, Red Hat, Debian, SUSE are other popular choices. Personally I prefer Slackware Linux. If you get a LiveCD variant you can run it directly from the CD without installing it on the computer. Linux provides great security, stability, flexibility and freedom. It gives you alot of control and choice.
Eldmannen
Linux can be downloaded in an .iso format then burned to a CD or you buy a Linux distribution from some stores or on the internet. Ubuntu Linux even has a service that you can order a CD set that comes with Installation CD and the LiveCD from the internet, all for free without even pay the shipping. https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ Shipping can take some time though. A good way to get a little familiar with Linux is to use a shell account, you ever done that?
acooldozen
Eldmannen....... Downloaded the .iso Puppy Linux file yesterday and burned it to a bootable CD. Really looks interesting, and will be some challenging fun for the near future. Puppy seems fairly simple and a good stepping stone to the full blown version. Please explain shell account???? ..........and Make yourself a Great Day! Cheers, Lyle Keep your software up to date http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php? Eldmannen
A shell account is when you have an account on another computer, then you can use telnet or SSH to remotely connect to the computer over the internet and access its command line and execute commands on the computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_account

Moderators rridgely Posted December 2, 2005 Moderators Share Posted December 2, 2005 I have tried Unbuntu. It was pretty strait forward and the interface is pretty close to windows for the most part.(thats about all thats similar though) Here is a link to a video tutorial on making a dual boot linux/windows. http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_Windows_..._Video_Tutorial To be honest I think linux is a waste of time. I have always felt like it was a less developed buggy MAC OS. I'm considering buying a mini at the moment(as soon as they ship with P4s in them). JohnDemolition
depends. KDE comes with a few pieces of software such as a pdf reader, office, games, and pretty much other stuff. not sure about GNOME though cause i've never used it.
