Sydney
Hi, I'm sure this is my own user error. I downloaded Recuva, ran it on the SD card from my son's camcorder to recover videos that we deleted somehow at the end of our August vacation. Recuva recoved about 100 files and put them in New Folder on my desktop. I can see the files as filenames with .mov extensions, but they won't play when clicked to play. Windows Media Player says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." I try to open on Firefox and get a Q with a question mark in it, and I try to open on my desktop with Quicktime and get "Error- 2408: Couldn't open the file FILE0021.MOV becuase it is not a file that Quicktime understands. Do I need to copy the files back to the SD card and play them on my son's camcorder? Help. Thought I was being so clever in doing this recovery. Sydney
Just need to add that I tried to put some files back on my son's camcorder but they won't play on there anymore. Still I can see all these files but can't figure out why they're unplayable. Hi, I'm sure this is my own user error. Moderators Nergal Posted October 24, 2010 Moderators Share Posted October 24, 2010 sometimes a file may seem to a recovery program (be it recuva or otherwise) to be in excellant shape, however if even a little bit of the identifying part of the file (called the header which tells a media program that it is a media file) is messed up the file becomes unplayable. I know there are some MP3 repair tools that can fix this, I am not as certain that there are like tools for movie files. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. vlad the large
I'm having the same problem with a large number of recovered jpgs. The odd thing is that the thumbnails were all recovered, but any of the larger files 1.5Mb + are saying they are missing their headers. I tried to look around and find something that might be able to recover the files but the one app I found couldnt find a marker to reinstate the header. I have about 8Gb of jpgs that need to be recovered. Does anyone have any additional recommendations on how to proceed?
