Advanced Settings?

Good morning,

 

I just got done reading 'Beginner's Guide' by TwistedMetal and found it very informative. I thank him for taking the time to write it.

 

However, I do have a question on the 'Advanced' feature.

 

I still am not clear on exactly what happens if I use this feature. I noted that TwistedMetal recommended to run it at least once a month.

 

Is there any further information available that could tell me exactly what I should check in this feature and what will happen as a result of it?

Thanks for posting back with your thoughts and suggestion.

 

No, I hadn't tried clicking on them until after your suggestion.

 

However, after seeing some of the messages when clicking on them tonight, I guess with my limited computer knowledge I had better let 'well-enough alone' and stick to the basics.

Menu Order Cache

Whilst this is useful, it records a list of every program that has been run from the tray. This option clears the list of previous programs and removes any custom display/hide options. (Warning: This won't have any affect until you manually restart the explorer process from the Task Manager.)

 

Window Size/Location Cache

Windows Explorer stores the view formatting and ordering settings for each folder on your system. After some time, this can contain a large amount of redundant data and may even slow down browsing for files on your system. Selecting this option will clear this data and reset the Windows Explorer display settings to their default option.

 

User Assist History

The start menu on Windows XP displays a list of the most recently run programs. Selecting this option will clear this list.
