Moderators rridgely Posted November 17, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 17, 2009 Make sure you have the OS disc that came with your computer. If it has a recovery partition then make sure you make the discs. Then nuke the HD with DBan and your finished. http://www.dban.org/

Specs: Acer Aspire 5100 Windows XP Media Center Ed I do not have the OS disc....(I think because this is a demo computer?....got it for a really good price) I have a "Express Upgrade to Windows Vista DVD", and a "Acer Upgrade DVD".....which I never used. I also have a back-up disc from a LONG time ago.....made it closer to the time I purchased the computer, but I dont think I made it upon first use. Moderators rridgely Posted November 18, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 18, 2009 Without nuking the OS all you can really do is manually delete your data and use something like eraser. If those discs you do have can be used to get a clean install of windows then use dban. Thats about all you can do.

And, looks like there is an option to "restore system to factory default". Would that work? (i'm not at all a computer guru....so hopefully these questions dont sound stupid... )
