Phill
Hi I am trying to restore a backup of my registry in cc cleaner. Every time I attempt this I get an error message saying "the program cannot import" and "error accessing the registry". Can anyone help please ? Moderators hazelnut Posted November 6, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 6, 2008 Phill the .reg file that you are trying to merge does it look something like this? cc_20081102_085029.reg It must have .reg on the end, so if you have changed the name of it to help you remember what it was, and not added .reg it won't work. Does this happen with all reg files or just this one? Phill
Hi Thanks for your reply. When I created this post all the files looked as per your example and none of the files would work. However after reading your post I went back to check and discovered that the files are now working. I don't know what has changed between then and now but my problem seems to have corrected itself. Do you have to do a restart or something before these files can be restored or should they be available immediately? Phill

In your case you probably had some program already using the Registry at the time. Just a note also, that what you are doing is restoring specific entries within the Registry. It is important that no other program is using the Registry at the time. It is also important to restore the entries in the reverse order that they were created. Good luck, davey

davey
Also that old trick of rebooting often solves many, many things I thoroughly agree. Next best thing to an "old" boot is a re-boot. Especially after installing, uninstalling or updating. davey
