Olympics reach a new low: trademarking the Canadian national anthem and threatening lawsuits over competing uses

The International Olympic Committee has trademarked a line from the Canadian national anthem, "with glowing hearts," and is threatening to sue anyone who uses the line in Canada, as part of the Vancouver Games.

The Olympic Games have long been an overblown dinosaur that threatens to bankrupt any country with the misfortune to win the "priviledge" of holding them.

Why not change the format completely, and run the games the same way as the World Cup is ran.

Thin the number of competing athletes by holding more elimination heats locally in each country, and shared between nationwide venues in that country.

Whittle the numbers down this way worldwide, and then with a manageable number of finalists, hold the Olympic Finals each time in the country that gave birth to the games. Greece.

And let all the competing nations contribute to the cost.

Yep, pie in the sky unfortunately.
