Problem with CCleaner

Hi,

This is my first post. I have been using CCleaner for a few years and have never had a problem. However, I love to

record tv shows to my computer and then transfer to dvds.

When I installed vista and used media center all was well until I used CCleaner's registry cleaner. Media center would

no longer burn tv shows to dvds. I tried to restore the registry from back up with no success. I tried system restore

with no success. I ended up completely wiping my hard drive twice.

I am now afraid to used registry cleaner, any ideas?????

Hello pg8183,

My first reply would be to leave the registry alone.

How long ago did you start using Vista ?

What OS ver. ed.etc were you using before?

There may be entries in winapp2.ini files that clean OK for non-Vista users but do things that may cause you problems.

Do you mean you took drastic steps and reinstalled Vista etc. or did your hard drives actually get wiped?

What is the exact name of your Vista edition and version.

What DVD software do you use now?

Is it the same as before ?

The following info will help others to come up with a solution.

These answers help to evaluate the problem.Provide as much information and detail as you can.

Just fill in the answers next to or below the questions?

Did you do any Registry issues fixing?

Do you continue to scan for issues until no more are found?

Did you do any software or hardware changes installs or uninstalls?

Are you running with Administrator privileges.

CCleaner version ?

OS,edition ,32bit or 64bit and version ?

Browsers and ver.?

Security software and ver?

Other data you think might be relevant?

What did you do and then what happened?

Provide a list of your CCleaner.ini file.( Tick option for Save settings to INI file at Options > Advanced then close CCleaner. This file will be created in C:\Program Files\CCleaner folder.)

Are you using a winapp2.ini file?

Answer "Yes" if you do and please explain its contents or provide a brief listing.Otherwise answer "No".

Best wishes,

:) davey

wow, thats alot of questions!!!!

Thank you for responding!

Lets see now,

I was using the latest CCleaner.

I have used CCleaner for years, but just got a new computer with vista.

I did not use the registry cleaner for about a month and all was well.

I used registry cleaner and made a back up. When I tried to restore it, it restored I think, but no success with media center.

Media center worked except for the burning of tv to dvds.

I tried to do a computer repair, but spoke with dell and a repair is possible with everything but media center (figures)

I restored the computer back to factory.

I did all the upgrades, everything was fine, so I thought maybe it was a virus rather than my trusted CCleaner.

I bit the bullet and tried the registry clean again, before I put in all my programs, (lucky me)

And again, media center worked fine, when I used CCleaner only, but as soon as I did the registry clean, I was

unable to burn tv shows to dvds.

I only use media center to burn tv shows to dvds, I don't have any other program.

I am the only one using my computer, so yes I have admistrative privs.

Thanks for responding.

If you have any other thoughts, please let me know.:blink:

Hello PG,

You are doing great. You answered most of those questions.

These answers are very important because sometimes one little fact or phrase can lead to a solution.

Can you please provide a text listing of the CCleaner backup file or files that you created when you ran the Registry cleaning. That info can be very important as well.

My first intro to the Wonderful World of Windows was a complete re-install of a DELL dual core WinXP Media Center about 1 year ago. I didn't even know what a Start Menu was.

I really need that other data to do a better job and provide info to other "helpers" as well.

If you need help to do something just come back here and ask.

Good luck,

:) davey

P.S. What software do you use to create those DVD's.

Can you still see the programs on TV that you want to record?

Please be aware that I do a lot of EDITING to my posts. Yes, Most of the times. :P

A little while back when I was using Vista Premium I had System Cleaner (file and registry cleaner & I dont reccomend it). Every time I cleaned the registry, Media Center was almost un-usable. I got extender errors, I couldnt stream video etc. In fact the only thing that worked was local playback of MP3's.

Anyway like Dave said. If we can find out what items are being removed in the registry, we might be able to determine which key(s) are essential for burning.

Run CC and scan the registry (but dont clean it). After the anylyze finishes, right click and select 'Save to text file'. Then you can either attach it in a post or copy and paste it.

Edit: Have you tried burning a disk outside of Media Center? Say dragging and dropping files in Explorer then burn from there? If Media Center is working its a mute point. Just thought maybe you tried it prior to the reload.
