CCleaner Problem Need Help!

Some "friend" of mine put this program on my computer without asking. He also tried to hide the program but done a piss poor job of it. The computer is a laptop and the volume controls, scrolling features, and battery display dont work like they used to and there was nothing wrong with my computer until now. My "friend" tried to fix this problem but all he did was run system restore and it did not fix it. I found where to fix the ez finger scroller on the touch pad but the computer will not let me check the box that makes it work. All I want is for this program to be off my computer and cor everything to be back the way is was. If i uninstall CCleaner will everything go back to normal? If not, then how can i fix these problems?

Is there a possibility that your friend installed CCleaner as he wanted to hide his tracks of where he had been surfing when using your computer? I cannot see why he would have installed it otherwise and tried to hide the fact.

There is also the possibilty that your computer has some infection perhaps?

It should be easy to uninstall CCleaner via add and remove., but without knowing what your 'friend' did it may not be CCleaner that has caused your problems.

the volume control buttons right above the keys that adjust the volume dont do that any more, there was also a display of the volume level on the screen that does not show up any more, the battery level display in the lower right corner used to be on the taskbar and show the percent of the battery now it is just a little battery that you can barely see and is pointless, the scrolling thing was the edges of the touch pad you could dra your finger along the edges and the screen would scroll. i found where to change this stuff back to normal but when i click the check box that corresponds to the original settings nothing happens. the box doesn't check and nothing happens. that is what the big problem was.

He said that when he was on the computer he was having a problem with pop-ups. I have never had any problems with pop-ups. The reason that he tried to hide the program is because he knew that i would have a problem with him changing my computer without my permission and i would change it back as soon as possible. I have never heard of CCleaner before and I would like to get some information on it before someone puts it on my computer when i have no idea what it is, how it works, and what it does.

all that i know is that before he put CCleaner on my computer it worked fine and now i cannot control basic features on it. If i remove CCleaner will the features be restored to normal, or will i have to undo what he did with CCleaner and then remove it?

I'm afraid just removing CCleaner won't fix whatever it is he did. It sounds to me like he disabled or deleted some startup items, but the only person who is gonna be able to tell you for certain what has been done is him.

I know you said he did a system restore but have you tried yourself to go back to a restore point from before he did this? (in case he did that wrong too or didn't go back far enough)

Tator, your friend said he had had a problem with popups. This sounds as though he may have inadvertantly picked up some virus/malware while using your computer.

A good idea would be to do a hijackthis log and post in in the part of the forum that deals with them.

Instructions on how to do one can be found near the top of this page, which is also the page where you post the log after pressing the new topic button.
