  1. FYI: I am running an HP computer, wxp up to date.

    1. verclsid.exe is in system 32,

    2. there is a prefetch file for it,

    3. and it is present in C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB908531\SP2QFE.

    4. Neither wbjrwesa.txt nor wbjrwesa is found on C: drive anywhere using windows explorer

No information about wbjrwesa found on google, dogpile, mama, ask.com, nor yahoo answers.

edit 22 mar 07: Also no information from computer associates virus info database.

Am running CCleaner V. 1.36.430. All applications are running OK. Makes me think the problem isn't verclsid. . .??

Good hunting, hope this helps. :)

  2. Don't know if it is even related, but when you run sdelete, the secure deletion utility from sysinternals, you wind up with files which have been renamed to zzzz.zzz, etc. After it overwrites a file, sdelete renames each letter in the file name and extension 26 times, so "date.txt" would end up as "zzzz.zzz".

  3. Two possibilities I can think of, either you've gummed up your registry or you got too many rocks for your wheelbarrow.

Seriously, I think krit86lr is right. More memory. 256 isn't much these days. I just had to put the max allowed memory in a 5 year old computer. Still running fine, but newer applications just take more.

  4. Actually was more worried about a rootkit, but Sophos, gmer, RKR, and Icesword show none. Learned about all those utilities on this forum, by the way. They are really useful and free. I appreciate all the knowledge that goes into these posts. :D

  5. The other registry cleaners do not run automatically and, in my engineering opinion, do not contribute to the problem if they are not loaded, run or running.

    Leritz

Wasn't exactly sure what you meant by "loaded, run, or running". On my system, when it is run at startup, CCleaner runs then shuts off when it is finished. If I run it manually, then I have to shut it off. In either case, it uses a lot of memory when running, but none when shut off. . .that is, it doesn't run in the background.

It it is running in the background on your system, I think you can just select your choices and shut it off. It will still run at startup. Be sure and wait for one of the other members to confirm this, it works for me but on Win XP.

Also the Beginners guide is available at:

    Good luck. :)

  6. I have this file, choddi.sys, in system32. Don't know what it is. Have looked at Prevx, CastleCops, WSI forums, Microsoft, other places. The file shows up in HJT logs on these sites, where someone has asked for help, then it seems that when they finally get a clean HJT log, the choddi file is gone. I can't find out what it is.

May be a dumb question, something everybody already knows, but any info would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  7. Just read the EULA for ActiveScan 2.0, more than a month after I ran it. Interesting cut and paste from near the end:

"11.- GENERAL- The user authorizes Panda Software personnel to visit him/her in order to verify that the conditions of this license are met.

The user knows and accepts that Panda Software may take legal proceedings should the user not adhere . . ."

No kidding, its in there. Wonder if they'll call first? :D

Can you take another shot of your taskmanager. I cant see the numbers since its too small. :)

Sort of on topic, I guess: If the universe really is expanding, why are all the numbers on labels getting so small? :D

  9. Just get the free edition if you're worried about it timing out or missing features, it really doesn't need to run resident anyways.

Well, too late, am running the trial version, but thanks. Agree with New_Age, don't need the real-time.

  10. XPSP2, I sure did enjoy that email when it came around. Sounds like my life in a nutshell, except the part about eating worms.

    :P

But, well, gotta dig my heels in here. Drugs, guns, smoking, internet predation, playground predation. . .there are things from which children should be protected. My own childhood (and adult) experiences notwithstanding.

Different from sliding on ice? Yep.

    Whaddaya think?

  11. Hi Grampar. Welcome. :D

I just found a bunch of these by doing a Google search for "free internet content filters". Cannot comment on any, haven't used them. Have you checked with your school system. . they might have suggestions.

  12. presently using:

    SpywareGuard--http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

    (Golden Oldie  )

    SpywareBlaster--http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

    Spybot S&D--http://www.spybot.info/

    SuperAntiSpyware Pro--http://www.superantispyware.com/

Will let it lapse when the trial runs out, see how it works as the free version.
