  1. Now that McAfee Site Advisor is apparently unable to work in Firefox later versions . . . are there any other site advisors worth having? I know, we all should surf wisely, but sometimes you go to a site and it's not what you thought.

    Any good alternatives out there?

  2. Never mind . . . I guess it down-loaded. I'm getting the green circle for trusted sites . . . I didn't realize what I was going to get for a symbol for a safe site.

However, when I click on ALL PROGRAMS I can't find "Web of Trust" in a search.

So I'm not quite sure what's going on. I think it downloaded but if I can't find it with a search then it's a little disconcerting.

  3. All of a sudden McAfee Site Advisor is not working. No more check marks for safe sites or any marks at all for any search options.

I've uninstalled and re-installed and still not working.

    I'm using Firefox 3.6.21

Any idea why it suddenly stopped working?

  4. Websense has been loaded onto my network at my place of employment and is blocking a lot of sites I regularly go to . . . some for my job and others not. Is there a software that can bypass Websense and not get caught at work?

    Thanks

  5. I believe I fixed the problem by going changing settings in autocomplete. I no longer get websites in the drop down when I start typing a website and I no longer get my e=mail appearing when I log into a secured site.

I ran Malware and OTL as suggested and posted it in the spyware hell section. Malware didn't find anything, Avast didn't either. Superspyware did find a Adware.tracking cookie which I quarantined, but that was after I changed autocomplete.

    Hopefully the problem is fixed.

    Thanks

  6. On the Firefox Forum help page I found this:

If you don't want Firefox to remember what you've entered into form fields you can turn off the auto form fill feature.

Go to Tools, click Options, select Privacy panel, set Firewfox will: to Use custom settings for history, Remove the check mark from the box that says Remember search & form history. Click OK

Disabling form history also prevents Firefox from storing search history for the search bar in the navigation toolbar.

I will be trying this when I get home tonight.

  7. I'm using Firefox:

I made a mistake on my original post about typing in a password.

When I go to hotmail in MSN.com it asks for e-mail address & password.

I start to type my e-mail address and the entire e-mail address comes up. That had never happened before. When I start to type in my password nothing shows up . . . I just continue to type my password.

In addition as I stated originally . . . when I start to search for a website and start typing most of my previous web searches appear in a drop down. That had never happened before.

Hopefully this will be a little more clearer for assistance.

    Thanks

  8. I forgot to mention I'm using Firefox.

I've run Malware & Avast with no detections. I'll try OTL later and report back and look into "auto complete" also.

PS: There have been more "jokes" than help with this!

  9. My wife "inadvertently" did something to cause changes.

When I start to enter something in the search area I get previous sites I visited. When I start to enter a password to log in somewhere my password shows up just as I start typing.

I don't know what she did but I don't want those things showing up when I do something like that.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  10. After uninstalling McAfee Site Advisor . . . I reinstalled it. And there was the option for the Yahoo Toolbar (sneaks!) I unclicked it and finished the download.

I rebooted then went to my web browser to search for something and Yahoo Search Results showed up AGAIN!

The strange thing is McAfee has been on my system for more than 2 years and there was never a problem with Yahoo showing up.

I'm at a lost trying to figure out how to remove the Yahoo Search Results and going straight to Google!

  11. I should have said add/remove programs . . . but Yahoo is not there.

Customizing my toolbar revealed nothing about Yahoo.

HAZELNUT: None of the images look like the Yahoo Toolbar I have.

I have McAfee Site Advisor loaded . . . perhaps Yahoo got downloaded with it? But McAfee is not in my add/remove programs and I can't see what else got downloaded with it.

  12. Somehow the Yahoo Toolbar has been installed.

I can't find it in the Remove Hardware

It's not in the Add Ons in Firefox

I clicked on the "pencil" in Yahoo where supposedly you can uninstall it but there is no "uninstall"

This just happened a few days ago . . . and I can't figure out how to uninstall it!

  13. I was looking for another e-mail provider other than my Thunderbird e-mail I use for personal correspondence. I used "hotmail" to correspond with others that I don't want my "home" e-mail address known.

Something I can log onto away from home and still use e-mail.

I've heard gmail was good but have no idea on it's use, so I was looking for some feed-back on a safer alternative to Microsoft's Hot Mail.

  14. I've used Spybot for years and it has worked very well. The only problem is it takes forever to do a scan.

I've tried Malwarebytes and it is far quicker.

If you had to pick between the two what would you suggest?

    Thanks

  15. OK . . . I've downloaded OpenOffice . . . it's "somewhat" similar to Microsoft Publisher with a few differences. I use Publisher at work and like it, so when my friend offered to let me download his version I thought it would be fine until I realized the "legality" of it. I'll work with OO for a while and see if it's as easy as Publisher.

I'll keep my eyes open for a low-price Publisher out there in web land.

    Thanks

  16. I will certainly not pirate anything. My friend has a copy of Microsoft Publisher and I asked if I could use it to download on my computer. Just wanted to know if that was legit or not.

Still looking at an free alternative to Microsoft Publisher. I've looked at a few free on-line, but not sure if they are any good. Just wanted to know if anyone has downloaded any free alternatives.
