  1. Ok. First: My folders are permanently relocated using sysprep audit mode during reimage. C:\ is my OS, D:\ is my Data. Users and ProgramData folders reside on D:\. It works perfect on every machine I've installed it on and currently have two identical machines set-up the same. I also don't do anything special when describing the target partition letter to programs. Reference that CC has no issue if it is an older version and IE9. Second: I didn't bother to lookup the exact system variable name %UserProfile% or %UserName%, I simply took out my name to hide my real name on the forum, real example then: Exclude1=PATH|"D:\Users\Hotel California\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds Cache\|"*.* Exclude2=PATH|"D:\Users\\Hotel California\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\IEDownloadHistory\|"*.* I've tried both ways, i.e., with and without quotations just in case CC added the quotes because handling of string spaces. Third: Do note from my previous posts that earlier versions of CC running analyze revealed plenty of history folder paths and files that could seen so as to be excluded even in IE10. But even removing ALL exclusions - there are still none visible. Completely removing and reinstalling CC to defaults - it is the same. Also do note that the file "container.dat" residing in "IEDownloadHistory" is created once but never changes its modified date or size even after cleaning using IE10's own function. Yet simply manually deleting that file clears the download history. I'm not saying this blame belongs to this or that. Only want to point out that something is amiss and raise awareness so that it can be dealt with. IE10 is sufficiently complicated so as to cause headaches not to mention backward compatibility for CC programmers. Fourth: Of course you could be right about path structure and I would be negligent not to at least try something different to try and correct for it. And I will try your suggestion even as I think it will not matter: remember above that at CC's defaults those folders and files are not getting revealed. E D I T: Excluding the Feeds Cache works fine BTW
  2. Ok, tried using the ccleaner.ini method - no difference. The biggest problem I see is that none of the folders that need to be excluded are even visible when there are no exclusions and everything is checked/enabled for sweep - so CC is sweeping them from within while ignoring the custom settings. This is how I set it up in the .ini file, substitute %UserProfile% with my name including a space hence the quotes: Exclude1=PATH|"D:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds Cache\|"*.* Exclude2=PATH|"D:\Users\\%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\IEDownloadHistory\|"*.* It was not possible to include a bar ( | ) within the exclude (tab) path - it got removed during analyze. Two versions ago this problem didn't exist so I'll either go backwards and deal with the cookie issues or just use IE10's built-in cleaner. I've spent too much time on such a small feature to continue further. ---------------------------------------------------------- Addendum: Default folder permissions would not allow me to modify/save the ccleaner.ini file after editing in notepad, even in the administrator acct. Give explicit full folder permissions to the account names in order to accomplish these tasks.
  3. Thanks Andavari for the feedback. Here's what I got. Just had to fix some things on my significant others system. I haven't kept CC up to date so she still has CC 3.28 on W7 64 Ultimate w/ IE9. As I had thought all those history folders and *.dat files are clearly visible and excludable on that system. It doesn't mean anything as my versions of things are different. Just observation of what's changed. With regards to the ccleaner.ini file. I never run my computer as admin for normal use. Trying to save in a Standard Acct throws a permission error. Would you recommend that I design the file in the administrator acct or give standard acct. permission to write in the folder?
  4. OK - more info. Narrowing this down with hard facts now. There is a folder: D:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\IEDownloadHistory It's now been Excluded like: D:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\IEDownloadHistory\*.* It contains 1 file called "container.dat" Upon deleting the file it is re-created when IE10 is opened. After downloading a new file from internet neither the size or modified date will change for file "container.dat". Close browser and re-open then press Ctrl+J, the file that was DL'd before is listed. Run CC and that history is swept from the browser. Re-download another file and verify things are normal. Go into that IEDownloadHistory folder and delete the file "container.dat". Open the browser and the history is swept for the DL'd file. Something is amiss.
  5. That's the thing - I think you've hit on here, On the CC Windows (tab) I've enabled: Temporary Internet Files History Cookies Applications (tab) I've enabled nothing. After browsing there is not one trace of the word "History" in any path whatsoever, period. Two CC versions ago there were lots/plenty. Edit Addendum: Also the only exclusions: D:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds Cache\*.* and Cookies: (16) formatted like: *.website.com CC is sweeping too much History info away and not allowing the user to exclude anything related to history.
  6. I give up! Just installed v4.03.4151. There is still absolutely no way to exclude from the CC history sweep the Download History that has taken place in IE10. But it can be excluded by unchecking the Download History in IE10's own browser cleaning function. This should be simple but it's not.
  7. I have that on mine but have never seen anything stored in the cache there yet. It may very well be a *.dat index somewhere. Double check that nothing is in the CC/options /Exclude or Cookies /to keep (tabs) that could be retaining them. Right click the taskbar and select Start Task manager /Processes (tab), always make sure iexplore.exe isn't running when using CC. Keep in mind you'll have several instances of it if multiple browser tabs are open. If the browser is closed and you still have one or more of these listed, select the first one then the button (End Proccess) on the bottom of the window. Then try running CC again.
  8. hazelnut, Thanks for the ref to Sandboxie. I'd never heard of them before either.
  9. I'm privileged to have witnessed the perfect troubleshoot. Glad to hear it's fixed. 3 Browsers and 2 Anti-Virus - you kind of know some basics Take Care.
  10. Well I just knew you were one or the other, either not very experienced but could give a great tech support description or, really knowledgeable and my answers would seem rather routine To the problem, I haven't seen the problem on my machine. But I'm also not running two other browsers, just IE10. Maybe try exporting the cookies to keep list and running without any. You can always just re-import the list back in afterwards. ---- Edit: you're also cleaning out the index.dat files correct, I think on IE10 they're called container.dat You can't exclude those folders in order to preserve cookies like the prior CC that was having problems with that. With CC, prior to v4.02.4115, I couldn't keep cookies, i.e., they were deleted regardless of the cookies to keep list configured all sorts of ways. In order to preserve them I'd exclude certain DOMStore folders, files and indexes in certain locations. This way things would be preserved such as sign-in to outlook.com but I'd have to exclude further to have the messenger work properly as it wouldn't be able to sign-in. With the newer CC I had to get rid of all that and revert back to the standard list and all is now fine. Has it ever worked properly and done everything as expected or is this a newly acquired problem?
  11. Some of the gang around here are much better at diagnosing issues but since nobody has responded I can point out getting to the Windows hidden and system files. Close down the browsers. Then in Control Panel/Folder Options, View (Tab), Hidden Files and Folder option select (Show), Hide protected operating system files (Uncheck), Click Ok to exit and save. You should be able now to poke around in the visible AppData folder and see the folders in the paths that CC details as files to be deleted. In CC, make sure you haven't added anything to the exclude list under Options/Exclude and that cookies to keep doesn't have those listed such as *.live.com which will keep them around. When you press the analyze button for cleaner you get a list like Internet Explorer - Temporary Internet Files ... History -- etc, that can be double clicked, that gives you the details of the files and paths that it will be cleaning for that group. Also one more thing - - - try right clicking on items. The shortcut menu is invaluable.
  12. If you have to sign-in to use your ISP or Homepage at Yahoo some information will be stored on their servers as your static preferences. A lot of stuff gets preserved and put back into a cookie on the local machine to speed things up. This might be happening with Ebay and Craigslist to an extent. Much like Andavari said. If you ever get curious you can get Folders Options to display hidden and system files and poke around in some of the folders using the paths displayed in the what is about to get cleaned lists when running CC. Yes, our privacy is being attacked.
  13. Good news. Thany kroozer said: For me, the Start Menu list is cleared by ticking Windows\ Advanced\ User Assist History. My bad. Thany kroozer is correct on this one and help says so specifically! Start Menu shortcuts sweep is for invalid items on the start menu only. If they are pinned - they're not touched using User Assist History running Windows 7.
  14. http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner Run a cleaning once with IE10's cleaning process, do this while IE10 is closed: Control panel, Internet Options, General tab, Browsing history, Delete..., Check all the boxes except the top one: Preserve favorite website data then click Delete button afterward then OK to exit. Use CC onward after that and see if it helps.
  15. You're onto something with this. Just before the current CC version I became quite familiar with the DOMstore and had set-up exclusions so that I could retain persistent login cookies that were getting swept. I've since reverted back to the standard cookies to keep set-up without any special tricks like (*.website.com). IE10 is so structurally different that I'm sure the CC Dev's are working hard to adapt to the new and continue to support the old. Oh, BTW, I'm not getting email for Forum Topics I'm following that are set for immediate notify. Maybe it doesn't send email. Never mind - figured it out. But I'm still unable to like anything.
  16. Open programs and features, try uninstalling it from there. Sometimes Windows will recognize it is no longer there on the second try and ask if you want it removed from the list. Edit: BTW, CCleaner is not the end all solver of Windows and Programs various uninstall problems. It's the program's uninstallers' fault. Gotta lay the blame where it's deserved. I do mean for this to be friendly Edit 2: Try deleting the left-over program folder for those program's then running the Windows uninstaller again. Those program's are hooked into so many areas.
  17. I had this problem before on XP then W7 IE10. I wonder if there is a folder permission that is missing, or maybe, one of the cookies or temporary files has permission/ownership issue. I guess it kind of boils down to how far OP Argon wants to go with this. I know that IE9 deleting browsing history had some weird behaviors/corruption when clearing and would sometimes create another Temporary Internet Files folder. To see this you'll need to uncheck Hide protected operating system files from folder options and look/search through the folders for its presence. I don't know if an IE10 upgrade would have killed it or if still lingering with stuff in it. Check Control Panel, Internet options - Browsing history settings and verify the path isn't weird, i.e., no tildes ~ within the path structure. That it points cleanly where its location is.
  18. Which version of CCleaner? Are you sure there are no Ebay cookies being kept by way of CCleaners cookies to keep? Have you checked in the Excluded items list to see if there is anything there that could be ignoring them? IE10 significantly changed some behaviors and locations. A couple things that could be tried: Make sure your cleaning (checked) the Temporary Internet Files, History and Cookies in CCleaner. Also, run a cleaning once with IE10's cleaning process, do this while IE10 is closed: Control panel, Internet Options, General tab, Browsing history, Delete..., Check all the boxes except the top one, Preserve favorite website data then click Delete button then OK to exit. This way you're starting rather fresh and can maybe see what is being saved. Also might want to include index.dat files in CCleaner.
  19. CCleaner - Under Windows Tab, Windows Explorer section, Taskbar Jump lists will clean out recently opened documents/files within the programs that have been used (e.g., right clicking taskbar programs or hover right arrow in Start menu program listings) but won't clean out the files that a user pinned. The Windows setting for this behavior is right click Start menu, Properties, Start menu tab, Privacy checkboxes to enable/disable. To have unpinned items retained when running CCleaner then uncheck the item: Taskbar Jump lists. CCleaner - Under System, Start Menu Shortcuts Windows\ Advanced\ User Assist History. if the box is checked it is supposed to clear out any recently started unpinned program items on the Start menu while ignoring the user pinned. In other words, if you have recently opened programs on the Startmenu (because the properties for Windows Start menu, Start menu tab, Privacy are enabled) they are not static until they are right clicked then pinned. If you want to clean items like these without CCleaner as a test, select Start menu, right click then Properties, Startmenu tab, uncheck both Privacy checkboxes then click apply, recheck both boxes and click apply or just Ok to re-enable new accumulation. Hope this helps. Re-edited for clarity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit again: Thany said: In Options->Advanced, the option "Enable Windows Jump List Tasks" is checked. I'm not sure what this option is for... Answer: This is for CCleaner Tasks only. If it is enabled you'll have a built-in right arrow quick launch task list like Clean, Registry etc. that can be launched at runtime instead of opening the program and finding the task you want CC to run. I avoid enabling it because it's too easy to inadvertently launch when in a hurry. But it is a nice feature I wouldn't condemn, just need to be aware of what your settings are before launching from there. Thany kroozer said: For me, the Start Menu list is cleared by ticking Windows\ Advanced\ User Assist History. Answer: This likely will clear everything including pinned items. Best to read the help documents before running some things blindly as there are consequences for the unaware. Personally, if I know I'll be reimaging the system I'll try out more stuff beforehand and I'll make sure I have backups current. My bad. Thany kroozer is correct on this one and helps says so specifically! Start Menu shortcuts sweep is for invalid items on the start menu only.
  20. I'm Using CCleaner 64bit v4.02.4115 on Windows 7 64 Ultimate with IE10. Is there any way to keep IE Download History from getting cleaned out along with the history sweep? I've tried everything but gotten nowhere with excluding folders and registry keys. Using Ctrl+J to view what I've downloaded during a week is convenient while having the other history items swept. Also, running debug mode from a Standard account is there any way to actually have run it in that account instead of the Admin account? Confused about this as I try to get the log file to record for the current account to see if there is a way to solve the above question. Edit addendum: Should probably add that I don't think the previous versions had this issue or at least it could be excluded. Also, realizing that IE10 made quite a number of changes structurally, the previous CCleaner needed adjustments to handle the cookie retention behavior which BTW, is working much better. Waiting to see if the developers see this post and are able to recognize and adjust it for the future - is probably the best hope. Thanks. Regards. ------------------------------------------- Thanks Nergal, for fixing the topic for me.
