  1. Anthony, I do believe you've invented a new Piriform descriptive term. POSIMO.

Sort of rolls off the tongue, and sums things up in one word. I'll be using that in future. :D

How are you pronouncing it? I think it works if you pronounce it as PAUSE-EEE-MO :P

  2. I always knew that Firefox was a POSIMO but I didn't have an acronym for it.

Lovin' IE8 beta2 on my clunky old PIII.

Firefox 2 is very good. It's 3 thats the problem and I'm sure the bugs will get worked out.

I should register that and get credit as the official creator of that acronym

  4. Personally, I find that the uninstaller that is part of CCleaner works equally as well, if not better. I sometimes uninstall a fair # of programs and I have never had a problem with the CCleaner Uninstaller.

The CCleaner uninstaller is not even close to Zsoft. There is no scan done. Have you used Zsoft or Total Uninstall?

  5. If there is, I haven't noticed it. Unfortunately, it is still as slow as ever.

Yeah it's POS IMO. Sure it still has all the extensions that make FF great but the slowness and clunkiness are as bad as IE. I am still using FF2 but mostly using Opera.

  6. To respond to your first question. The images folder in the profile folder is perfectly safe to delete. In fact in the Opera Clear Private Data dialog there is an option that will clean that folder it's called "Clear Bookmark Visited Time". I run it rarely because doing so dumps that folder and you lose all your bookmarks favicons every time you do it. Of course they come back as you visit the sites again. Here is a shot of the dialog.

For your second question. I don't have the VPS files or I can't find them looking through my profile folder. I am using a single user install and I use the "Classic Installer". As a result my Profile folder is not located where yours is. My profile folder is in the install directory in C\Program Files. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Your third question about the Trash Bins in Opera. I don't know where they are located on the hard drive but so can't help there. I just clean them within Opera so I never had a need to look for them on the HD.

I will suggest that you go the the Opera Forums and search or post a question. You will get your answers very quickly.

  7. So where is the Links Bar? I don't see it. Thank You!

So I just enabled it but still don't see it!

The links bar in IE7 is enabled by right clicking the tool bar and then you see a list of tool bars to check or un check. Than add the sites you want to it.

  8. When IE opens, is there a way to have several sites already tabbed, e.g. similar to Firefox's Bookmarks Toolbar? A long time ago I had it set to do that but every time I closed a session there was a nag about whether I wanted to do it. I would/could never leave Firefox, however, for the few occasions I go over to IE for, I'd love to have the things I use it for ready to go.

I don't understand this question. You say you want something similar to Firefox's Bookmarks Tool Bar? Thats what the "Links" bar is in IE7. This does not however open IE with pages already tabbed like you want nor does the Firefox Bookmarks Tool Bar. I can't figure out what you are asking for.

  9. Every time I tried to run an application it popped up a warning.

I guess I'm not patient enough to learn it.

What warning? If you use the free version you get a a pop up that tells you you are using the free version and it is limited. This happens only once per day the first time you launch Sandboxie.

It sounds like to me you have quick recovery set to notify you every time that you add a file to a recoverable folder. This can be turned off.

The way I have it set is that I use what ever program I am using as normal than when I close the program it automatically deletes the sandbox unless I have something in a recoverable folder than it warns me and asks if I want to recover it.

  10. BIG Returnil fan here, and always will be, but I think I may just dip my toe in the sand again. :)

IMO Returnil and Sandboxie are very different. I would use Returnil for when I want to try out an app. Reboot and the app is gone. Sandboxie is better for browsing or running a specific program. You don't virtualize the whole system just the program and the files it needs to run and no reboot to get out of it.

I also had a system get destroyed with Returnil. Removed an older version of Returnil and installed a newer version and could not boot. Prior to that I was a big fan but now I don't use it.

  11. I would like to try Sandboxie but I can't afford it being on a fixed pension and limited funds.

I use all the free applications that I can that prevent malware from infesting my system like a good anti virus application like Avira!, HOSTS file from hpHosts and MVPS, Windows Defender and WinPatrol.

So far I have been malware free since I started using the Internet about when it became available through a 1200BPS dial-up modem.

I warded off the infamous CWS plague, Mydoom, Sasser, Sobig and other prevalent infections unscathed using free applications and knowledge that I gained from the great community here on the Internet with one of them being GRC Discussion newsgroup http://www.grc.com/discussions.htm where I learned about what was good and what was bad.

Sandboxie has a free version. It has some limitations compared to the paid version but nothing I miss.

  12. I have never heard of this program till today and I checked on their website, it all sounds like great protection.

    Is it worth downloading?

Can it coexist with ZoneAlarm and any A/V, anti-malware program?

Yes to all your questions. Do a search on here there are many threads about it.

  13. According to Calendar of Updates that update was two days ago:

    http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?a...;event_id=47073

    Have a look at today:

    http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?a...;event_id=47152

Yeah I know but in a few days when I manually check for updates it will update with the internal updater. I don't care if it's a few days behind. I hardly ever scan with Windows Defender. I only keep it because I already have it installed and it's not causing any problems. I wouldn't install it again though I have several other apps I prefer to it.

  14. You can uncheck the advert and it will go away but appear again the next time you launch Foxit. A couple versions ago you could make that advert disappear permanently.

Andavari I agree with you. The advert is a minor annoyance to put up with for free use of a great app. I was just curious if the little fix worked on this version.

  15. EDIT: Sandboxie's options has an expandable category called Applications which contains what you want. Disregard the first part.

Yes you can exclude the Thunderbird Inbox from being sandboxed using that option. What happens than is anything in your folders will be really there not sandboxed but when you open the the email it's opened in Thunderbird Sandboxed and you are protected from an infected email. When you close TB the sandbox is emptied and all the crap that was in the infected email with it but the email is still in your inbox because the inbox was not sandboxed.

  16. I use Firefox and Thunderbird. I also use Sandboxie. Sandboxie is a great program to use with any app that you are going to connect to the Internet with. I will use Firefox sandboxed if I am going to be visiting unfamiliar sites or a site I have doubts about. I do this with all browsers I use though. Buttom line is that Sandboxie is excellent and works well with Firefox and Thunderbird.

  17. I spent the last few days setting up an HP laptop for the G friend. Came with Vista Home Premium which I am not impressed with but thats another story. It came with Norton Internet Security installed. I was fortunate that the uninstall was fairly smooth and painless. I first went to the Norton start menu item and selected uninstall. It finished it's routine and I rebooted. I then ran the Norton Removal Tool to clean up. Rebooted and ran the tool again. Rebooted and Ran CCleaner's reg tool and there were only a couple entries for Norton/Symantec . Installed Avira AntiVir. No problems. I'm sure there are some reg entries left behind but nothing that is causing any problems right now and I don't want to mess with them until I get more familiar with Vista. The one glitch was when I went to download the Norton Removal Tool from Norton's site I couldn't. Some thing about a server error or what ever. I ended up downloading from Magor Geeks.

  18. Are you able to clone your system drive onto a new HDD and swap them out, and use the new cloned drive immediately? Also can you restore a completely corrupt, unbootable system with the programs disaster recovery CD that you create? I have found those features most useful in Acronis True Image, And that is just the beginning of the backup and recovery functions it has to offer. Thanks!

You can make an image of the HD and put that image on a CD/DVD or Extrenal HD. Boot from a recovery disk and restore the image to a brand new empty HD . Isn't that what you are doing?

Just to clarify. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Acronis. It has an excellent reputation. I am saying the programs I use do what I need and more and for free.

  19. no problem login123,i am glad to see there is at least 1 more person who is not afraid to spend ?6

Has nothing to do with not wanting to spend 6 what evers. I am totally happy with Macrium Reflect Free and Drive Image XML. They are installed and working perfectly for me. I have all the features I want and need and both are lite non bloated apps. I would have gained nothing with Acronis that I would have used. I wouldn't have installed Acronis even if it was free.
