IE7 now supports AES encryption. However, unlike Firefox and Opera, it only seems to support AES-128. Anybody know if this
can be changed? Both Firefox and Opera allow cipher customizations (Opera make it the easiest).

I am able to set the disk cache to 0 so it will only keep copies of web pages in memory. I like doing
this especially when I want to increase my speed and privacy (CCleaner only needs to shred the history and
cookies instead of all the files on disk).
With broadband, do I even need a disk cache?

It worked fine for me. Make sure you have the newest versions of java/flash installed.
Try in a different browser as well.(I'm currently on one of my desktops trying the latest firefox 3 alpha)
Yeah, it worked in IE7, but not Firefox because of NoScript. I just can't figure out what setting is causing the problem.

When I go to this link, the web fully appears and then the browser screen goes white and the browser continues to load
infinitely, anybody have this problem?

I read on matousec that the firewall that came with AVG Internet security was pretty bad, have there been any updates for it?

I thought NOD32 was supposed to be much better than that? I tried KAV, but I had to use the recommended settings because
"scanning all files" was way to slow for me. In NOD32, all files are scanned and everything from "virus signatures" to
"potentially unwanted software" is checked, and I still can't tell it's running.
Were the anti-virus softwares tested with the default settings or the max settings?

I just downloaded the Eusing Registry cleaner and it found 946 entries that were fixed. Afterwards, my control panel
was blank, so I suspected the newly cleaned registry to be the problem. I restored the backup it made and rebooted, but the control
panel is still blank. What can I do?

Stay away from mcafee. Honestly its garbage. Is your ISP comcast?
I don't know of anything that will configure the vista firewall though.
I use Comcast, and it has been quite good. I just don't understand their choice of software, but I didn't think Mcafee was
that bad?
To be honest, Comcast is so damn fast (with TCP optimizer too) everything else seems slow, even the 1.5-3.0 Mbps.
Kaspersky firewall slows down my connection a bit. I am spoiled, because it is still fast, but I am used to it being faster
under Zone Alarm Pro!

I found an add-on to the Vista Firewall from Sphinx Software. It adds program based firewall rules and the like. It seems ok, but the
fit and finish of the software look kind of old. Anyone try it? They have one for XP too.
-
Anybody know of a Vista snap-on for the new firewall that will make predefined rules for popular programs? Manually setting the rules is
nearly useless because the firewall doesn't tell what programs are being blocked outbound. Maybe some configuration files that can
be added to the rules lists?
Kaspersky's firewall is greatly weakened because App integrity control doesn't work in Vista and my trial is running out!
However, my ISP offers Mcafee's Firewall with anti-virus and anti-spam (you pick and choose; although I use NOD32, and did use Zone Alarm).

I had an odd crash with KAV and NOD32 that I recovered from. Howeverm now there is about a 10-15 second delay when I boot up Vista. NOD32 is gone and
Kaspersky says everything is fine, but the delay is annoying!
I was able to make NOD32 and KAV play well together. I modified KAV only to have the anti-hacker, proactive defense, and anti-spy installed so it won't
interfere with NOD32 on demand scanning of file and web data.
avp.exe installs it self as a network driver for the firewall, and NOD32 does the same thing. It is advisable to exclude avp.exe from NOD32's IMON scanner
since it would be double scanning?

I am having the registry cleaner problems in CCleaner, but I am in Vista. I ran the dial-a-fix in compatibility mode and repaired permissions but nothing happened.
I still haven't got any feedback on the bug where the program is removing my Synaptic trackpad entries.
I downloaded the new version 1.39 and the synaptic trackpad entries still appear. I am not even sure anything was changed in the issues
cleaner.

it says Symantec reported it, I wonder if Norton did as well, haha, that would be too perfect if it did not
Huh? Symantec makes Norton!

I have NOD32 and Zone Alarm Pro that I have used for a long time. However, in Vista I cannot run ZAP firewall, so I am trying
Kaspersky Internet Security as a trial. It's really good, but I have issues with the scanning speed for the file and web
antivirus since NOD32 is faster in both categories. Is there a way I can run KAV and NOD32 without any conflicts?

In CCleaner 1.38, the recycle bin would only get cleaned and not overwritted 3 times as I specified in the options. The 1.39 version which I
downloaded was supposed to have a bug fix for this. However, CCleaner is still not overwriting the recycle bin contents. Anyone else see this problem?

I thought the new CCleaner was supposed to be out this week?

IE7 finally includes AES encryption that both Opera and Firefox had for a couple of years. For example, yahoo mail and Gmail will
automatically use it in a browser that supports it. However, IE7 only seems to support AES 128, not 256. Is there a setting that can be changed
to enable it?
For example, in Amazon.com, Firefox will only use 128 bit RC4 (it is sufficient), but if you go to about:config,
search "ssl," and make
1)security.ssl3.rsa_rc4_128_sha
2)security.ssl3.rsa_rc4_128_md5
3)security.ssl3.rsa_fips_des_ede3_sha
4)security.ssl3.rsa_des_ede3_sha
5)security.ssl3.rsa_aes_128_sha
all false, then the Amazon.com certificate will use an AES 256 cipher. Some servers will not allow it, and you have to make 1) and 2) "true" again.
Oddly, my bank won't allow 256 bit AES ciphers while Gmail will .
-
Probably not.
Application compatibility is why most places still say its better to use 32bit vista.
I remember a post that had a microsoft link that would allow users to download a 64 bit version if the user had a 32-bit
Vista, can the opposite also happen?
-
Now I have another problem
AVG anti-spyware is unsupported in the 64 bit version of Vista. Is there a way I can make it work?
-
AVG Anti-Spyware and NOD32 are perfectly compatible, I have both open and monitoring all the time. Are you sure you didn't install anti-virus? You can only use one anti-virus.
Oops, you're right, I download AVG anti-MALWARE
-
When I installed the trial version my computer crashed to the point where I had to hit the power button. I am running NOD32 in the background and I think that was the
problem. However, I thought since it was an anti-spyware program, it wouldn't interfere.
For example, after hitting the power button, the AVG icon appear in my taskbar, but NOD32 wouldn't start.
Do I have to uncheck the resident when I install? I just don't want to try the install again untill I get some feedback.
-
I read that UAC and IE7 protected mode in Vista stops this problem. If you're in XP/2000, Cnet recommends using either Firefox or Opera until a patch is released since it is not affected by this problem.
I'm also thinking that tightening IE7 settings in XP could stop it too. All the antivirus vendors have the trojan downloader in their signatures by now.
Has the end arrived for desktop antivirus?

One of the reasons I like NOD32. From what I've read, the best proactive protection you can get. However, its overall detection rates have
been going down - Hopefully this will change for version 3. Nevertheless it's one of the best anti-malware software you can buy.
