  1. Long before CCleaner provided the hotfix uninstall option I removed the uninstall files myself, so this is not CCs fault. When I check my Belarc Advisor it shows that fix as missing, however, every time I install it it doesn't "take" because it continues to show as missing with BA. Any suggestions? Thank You!

  2. I'd call home shortly after posting here and it was fine at home. About 20 minutes later it was normal at work. I was wondering if the network (I work for the state of PA) was doing some kind of audit on me or something. Weird thing is it worked fine friday, why did it go back to thursday? Plus it wasn't just my pc!

  3. lokoike, I reinstalled that several times a long time ago and the message never went away. Years ago, with Win 98, I kept getting an error message and I found this list in msconfig and unchecked something and it went away. I thought there might be something like that now. I'll try installing that file again and see what happens. It's available all over the net. thanks!

  4. Changing the sender name is easy to deal with. Use * as the sender name. That wild card symbol works with most if not all programs. I use it and ? (for individual letters) for my black list in PopTray (not a spam tool but a mail notifier) and it deletes spam right off my IPs server, I never even see it anymore. e.g. *@i?baa.com to stop: *@iwbaa.com and *@ixbaa.com

  5. Tarun, I'll say this for it. Thanksgiving and Christmas my nieces and nephews are here gaming and messaging. They leave and SD finds nine and seven spywares respectfully. Now I'll never know whether they were alerted and then just closed the alert or the malware got by it and MS Anti Spyware, but it still found them after the fact. Really, two of the few times spyware has ever been found on my pc, with any application, so I'll give it credit for that. I did not have Spy Sweeper nor ewido at the time. Both times I ran the scan with SD first, so I don't know if a MS AntiSpyware scan would have found them or not.

  6. This is the best! Very small, no extras like fan speeds, however, it can warn and shut down, and it's free. I've used it for about two months now and it is great. When I researched it I discovered some people had issues with the install. Namely, you have to provide a number to download, if I remember correctly, and then another license number at install. It has has to be done perfectly or you end up with a nag screen. I took my time and didn't have any trouble.

  7. Mine worked for several days and then it quit updating also (can't remember which code or update) so I uninstalled it (twice now), removed all reg references, and files. But now I get this: "W.D. was unable to complete the update: 0x8007064c. The installation source for this product is not available. Verify the source exists and that you can access it." So screw it for now! I'm down to Spy Sweeper, ewido and NOD32 all licensed and monitoring, although I realize S.S. is really the only one of those considered specifically for spyware (by most accounts the best though). I've posted the problem on a MS W.D. web site and if I don't get it rectified I might reinstall Spyware Doctor (Maybe the scan disc issue will go away! See post in The Lounge.).

  8. Andavari, problem solved (see link)!!! I had Spyware Doctor installed for over a year through my work license because we check our mails from home. The license had expired and our company was late in renewing it so I finally just removed it since it wasn't updating. We got it renewed a few weeks ago and I installed it. For some unknown reason, my pc didn't like this version. I uninstalled it last night and when I booted, scan disc started by itself, remembering I had attempted to do it I guess. Do you use SD and could this have happened to you also? Thank You again for all your help!
