  1. for every computer glitch, hardware issue, software bug - someone has to be the first.
maybe you really are the first for your problem.

the average forum user that repeatedly signs in does so with the aim of helping others.
    if your problem hasn't been addressed, you fall into three categories;

    • no-one can help
    • no-one cares
    • the person who can help hasn't seen your post

don't forget this is a community forum, used by volunteers, freely giving up their time and offering advice when and where they can.
if you don't like the advice already offered or feel unsatisfied, there is nothing stopping you from seeking advice from other forums, such as, PC Help Forum, Wilders or Computer Hope.

  2. 1. log files by their very nature just log events.  if you want to see the history of an event, then Yes, keep your log files.  all I can say is that in 30 years of professionally using PC's I have needed to look at a log file maybe 3 times.  so, don't run CC if you are troubleshooting.

    2. I've stayed on v5.40 so don'y know about that new feature - sounds wanky to me.

    3. you run the potential to restore a 'broken' registry if the restore point has a snapshot of such a registry.  cleaning the registry is always potentially unsafe not matyter how small and simply not needed these days except in removing gremlins.

    4. it is msconfig, with a bit of
        %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and
        %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and
        for 32bit
           HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
           HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
       and for 64bit
           HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,
           HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce, HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Window\CurrentVersion\Run,
           HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    5. all depends if you want to keep what the cookies are saving

    6. I've never had those options ticked.  again, it's all down to personal preferences - do you what to delete everything or just everything but the last 24 hours?

  3. This is a long, long running bug in the program.

no official word on any sort of resolution.

Weirdly, the issue for me at least tends to come and go depending on the version so you could try a few older versions and see if you get lucky.

    old versions available from Filehippo.

or just do an old fashioned low level format on that drive. :)

  4. 26 minutes ago, Stephen Piriform said:

When you use CCleaner it is necessary for some data, such as the operating system you’re on, whether you’re using a free or paid version of CCleaner, and the language you’re using, to be reported.

    Necessary?

So how does CC still function when it is blocked at the firewall or runs on a PC not connected to the internet?

  5. just a bit of background info for you.... :)

first up you necromanced a four year old thread which is never good forum practice (on any forum).
next, this forum is purely run by volunteers, freely giving up their spare time to help others.
so if a post goes unanswered, it's probably because no-one can help you or the person that can has yet to log on and see it.

a couple of the Admin boys are now starting to chime in but they don't offer advice that doesn't have a company spin or product angle to it.
    that's not their job.

if you have Recuva Pro, you have the option to raise a ticket for priority support.
if the USB stick was not reformatted after purchase, it most likely was still a FAT32 partition which has a 2GB file limit, so the file may have just been able to be stored but is now corrupted due to the wiping and potential file size.

was that file stored anywhere else?
at the risk of stating the obvious, and yes that horse has already bolted so this won't help you now, but USB sticks like all storage medium will fail eventually, so always have your important data stored in more than one location.

    @Augeas any ideas?

  6. try this;

    uninstall your current version first.
then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents
(keep the .ini file if you have customised settings)
download the latest build from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds (or use FileHippo for previous versions)
reboot the PC then install CC from your downloaded file.
if you need to convert this Free version to the Pro, go to Options > About and enter your license key.

if no luck, try the install with the PC in Safe Mode.
or try the Slim or Portable builds to see if they work.

  7. g'day Mick and welcome to the forums.

CC has always targeted junk, temp, crap, and personal history categories of files, to name the main-stayers.
a lot of CC users predominantly run it to remove their usage tracks, be it browser based or most recent used files.

I guess this is a good example of checking the default settings for any software before blindly running it, especially a piece of kit that will be cleansing your system. :)

glad you found the cause and it won't happen again.
and as you say, luckily they were only trivial data.

  8. g'day Paul and welcome to the forums.

I personally have not setup up a scheduled task for so many years that I'd be of little to no help.
so I'll let this one go through to the keeper for me and wait for someone else more knowledgeable to chime in.

to answer your concerns from your PM, rest assured the Admin guys will see this, they tend to read all messages but for some reason they only opt-in to request more info if the message pertains to a bug.  they almost never  offer advice in solving users day to day issues.

but hey, you may get lucky.

so until they, or another volunteer jumps on, the documentation and sheer brute force will be your companions. :)

  9. Speccy also shows Unknown for my RAM, has done for ages.
I think it's trying to display the memory type; DDR3, DDR4 etc and either can't find the info pre-set in the firmware or can't work it out based on internal logic.

yes the Admins/Devs will see this report however acknowledgements or responses are very rare.

  10. Cheers.

looks like the firmware has the usual fields populated.

just Speccy that can't work something out!

you've done all you can, the Devs may eventually see this but if other Speccy issues are anything to judge off, don't hold your breathe waiting for acknowledgement or resolution.
