  1. Solar Roadways have caught a lot of attention recently, but I agree with the criticism of them: replacing critical infrastructure with non-future proofed (and rapidly advancing) technology seems both expensive and short sighted

I agree with you I also think they will have to work parallel with the power grid not just switch from one to the other overnight.

Solar roadways that could give a charge to EVs would be interesting - charge as you drive

Wonder how that one will work, Inductive effect maybe ?

Three things I can see as potential problems with solar roadways:

1.) Before I retired, I was involved in road construction. There were times when the contractors I worked for applied for and received overweight permits from the New York State Department of Transportation. These were temporary permits that allowed our trucks to operate with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 120,000 lbs. during specific phases of a road construction project. I wonder how well an interlocked series of glass panels could stand up to that, even for a brief period of time.

2.) Looking at the texture of these panels, I would not want to transition from normal pavement onto these on a motorcycle doing 60-70 m.p.h., the resulting speed wobble could very well prove fatal. Have you ever ridden a motorcyle across a steel deck bridge? Scary, even at low speeds.

3.) Floods. No matter how well you think you have engineered and tested the way these panels are interconnected, or how they are connected to the power grid, water will eventually get in. Look at the aftermath of hurricane Sandy, or any other hurricane for that matter, could you imagine replacing all the roads that were submerged?

All your points are valid, but as the tech get refined I am sure your first 2 points will be worked out. But point 3, water, if it wants to get in it will get in. This point I think will be the hardest to work out.

  2. But with a Pagefile of 4-6 GB of RAM, perhaps even greater, then I agree there may be problems, mainly with shutdown times being extended to even a full minute.

I am sure you are just speculating about the full minute to shut down, right ??

Shutdown time is not based on the time it takes to delete the pagefile, it depends on the amount of processes and services that has to end on the pc before it can shut down...(but I am sure you knew that)

    Another question, you state

There are those who advocate that a Pagefile poses a security risk and the larger the Pagefile, the larger the risk. It is obviously better to clear all the Pagefile junk on shutdown.......

If it's that obvious to delete the page file on shutdown due to security risks, don't you think that Microsoft will advise the users to delete it ?

One more thing, what is negligible for one isn't negligible for someone else.

  3. I let Windows set my Pagefile size and do not bother with any customization. I do not need any personal gymnastics on this matter.

I have  960 MB of RAM, not a lot by others standards, but adequate for me. My Pagefile size is 1440 MB or 1.5 x available RAM, which is the general guidance for Pagefile size setting.

Having the computer clear my Pagefile on shutdown as suggested gives no problem whatsoever. It is not even noticed. An empty box is surely better than a box full of junk from a previous session.

Just want to make something sure here.

By that equation  1.5 x available RAM = general guidance for Pagefile size setting

    I have 12gb RAM  so     1.5 x 12,288mb = 18,432mb  of HDD space just to create a pagefile

    OR

Is it available RAM after all process has started and RAM being used, available RAM is what is "free" after this process ?

  4. It is true that the distance between the Earth and the Sun does not create the yearly seasons (the seasons are controlled by the tilt of the Earth's axis of rotation). However, this distance is responsible for more extreme, longer-term, climate changes.

  5. Hello neurovir,

    Welcome to the forum.

It will be much easier just to try right click on the drive and format it that way.

    But any case:

What version for CCleaner are you using ?

What Operating system are you running ?

Was the full drive wipe done or did you try and access the drive while still wiping ?

  6. Nice spider. I'd never consider one as a pet but I do like watching the variety that don't make webs hunt live prey. If they're outside I leave them be, if they're inside the house I introduce them to my foot or a flyswatter.

This is why I do not kill spider Andavari

NOTE: I see I made a typo in my post

"Who knew 9gag was just full of funnies and weird stuff"

    it should have read

Who knew 9gag wasn't just full of funnies and weird stuff

  7. Just making a small contribution for those who want it.

  8. I live in Australia and our spiders tend to grow rather large. I've had pet birds killed and eaten by spiders. I don't fear them, so much as respect their frightening disregard for life.

Well I stopped reading after Australia ;) .  Nicely put about the respect. *tip my hat to you*

  9. CCleaner does NOT install any of those things so we need to know how you managed to get them on your machine.

Hazelnut is correct but users should please keep in mind that ESET will indicate a warning for Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D when downloading the normal installer.

But this can be over come by downloading the Slim (toolbar free) or Portable version from here.

The Slim version usually is available a week after the normal installer.

  10. Thanks for the in-depth feedback

Hopefully any "Duplicate File Finder", whether by Piriform or some other supplier,

will be aware of Reparse Illusions and avoid deleting the real thing.

If the developer gets it wrong -

At least you get some more free space released

Let us just hope they get it right !!

  11. After Alan_B mentioned File Ownership and Access Control Levels, I did some deep digging in File Finder settings again.

I started to come to the conclusion it's not the Mach by that will causes the most problems but the Ignore, File Ownership and Access Control Levels settings that will for most users.

    Thanks Alan_B.

    Edit:

After performing a scan and found new duplicate files and removed them ran in some other problems that Explorer indicates the files are still on the pc even though the folders are empty.

But this is just a side note.

  12. The point of my post was to raise an issue and see if I was doing something wrong. I do believe it's an issue with the software and hopefully devs can check it out and resolve it as I love CCleaner and use it everywhere. Thanks for help guys.

This issue was raised 28 February 2014 after they introduced, File content duplicate detection to File Finder. Since that date two releases was maid and this problems still remains.

With File Finder being so easy to configure, I never had any doubt you did something wrong configuring the variables of finding duplicate file. This coming form someone who has played with File Finder extensively after 4.11.4619

  13. I would love to have all legitimate software companies like Piriform be much more selective of where they point us to download their free software, and not use those locations that use the deceptive, dangerous and very frustrating download tools.

Thanks for listening to my rant...

NNord over and out... for now...

One can not control where your download links are located on the internet. So this is more of an PICNIC if the user download their software from known or suspected dodgy websites.

    Off topic:

Fining it really sad how many people get get phrase "Over and Out" wrong :( .

Stating Over and Out with tag "...for now.." really not the correct radio (2way) ethic. You are either "Over" meaning you letting someone else talk coming back later or waiting for responce or "Out" meaning you and the conversation is done.

  14. Layers are better then nothing.

I use visualization software VMware, currently running 4:

    1 for testing new software,

1 for Virus testing. Install and see what it does and how to remove it.

1 for destruction. This is to see the amount of files can be deleted from windows before it gos cheers.

    1 for development.

    Makes my world go round.

Brain.exe being an essential layer :)

    404 Error on file Brain.exe :o

  15. You  don`t want feeble, big busted cosmetic wannabe sex symbol Bimbo`s pretending to be chained up or Steroid male muscle bound freaks as a desktop. What you want is pure natural ecxstatic beauty :-

    @hav0c,

For all you know, that is a woman!!!

Mta, one can only dream ...... ;)

  16. Sorry, but your opinion is not, in my opinion, solid evidence that the files are identical.

    I agree with this statement.

I have played with File Finder for a while now in my opinion rather manually confirm visual by opening the files then delete the files.

File Finder needs a lot of work to get it to work.

I gave up after trying all combinations possible on sorting my files using File Finder.

(Still have the files hoping one day File Finder will work as advertised)

  17. Never have. With my luck the encryption software would have a bug that I would of course find and lock me out.

 That would be very bad.

So if none of you encrypt your data asking your guys though on TrueCrypt may be skipped.
