  1. Thank you very much for posting about that, and the 5 times scan being needed. I found out my old 2GB USB stick that would periodically give issues on my PC and PS3 needed to be thrown away.

    Glad the software was helpful for you.

    This little tool helped me save a Transend USB stick.

    Works like a charm

  2. Thanks for that one. I've got a couple of 4GB USB flash drives that are questionable. In the past, I've copied good .iso files onto them and find the files are corrupted when I copy them back to hdd. Now I won't feel bad about throwing them out if they fail.

    Let the test run about 5 times, i have noticed in some cases 1 pass isn't all to good.

  4. Phones contain usable information in nefarious situations (banking, facbook, passwords in plain text notepad files, always connected devices to use a botnets, autocall and/or text to premium services which are fiscally attached to the criminal). It's time to stop thinking of hacking as a thing bored nerds are doing and realize that these attacks generate difficult to trace money (in the millions worldwide I'm sure) for criminals. These aren't Matthew Broderick in wargames. They aren't my neighbors dialing into army computers to see if they can. You and your phone represent viable victims.

    A phone today in some instances contains more usable information then pcs in my opinion. Maybe you should just check on your neighbors, you will never know if they are trying to dial "home" ;) .

    WarGames is a good movie.

    Hey Hav0c, I can solve that problem for you. Just give me a minute to go out to the garage and find my 16 lb. sledge.  :lol:

    Just kidding.  :P  That's why I have a TracFone. It costs me an average of about $8 a month because I rarely use it. About the only feature it has is text messaging (how 90's!), and I never even activated that. Someone can hack it until they turn purple and pass out, and all they'll end up with is my phonebook.

    And Nergal is absolutely right. They're not doing this as a prank or as a joke. It's strictly business, and business is good.

    Hmmmmm 16lb you say, do you think it will do the job vs just using a Nokia 3310 ?? :lol:

    The question that one has to ask onself if you play with this sort of things is to distinguish between when is it a prank or a joke and when does it become a business for you. But yes busniess is good.

  5. So I got this mail today from ESET

    ESET recently uncovered the Remote Access Trojan (RAT) that was masked as several legitimate Android applications.  This is concerning to users, as applications have become a part of our mobile experience, and this, of course, has not gone by unnoticed with cyber criminals.   Often on Android devices, the malware will disguise itself as a legitimate, and often popular application.  To many eyes. the application looks like the real deal, as all the functionality of the real applications are available to the user.  But, it is the addition, the added extra, that is malicious and the very essence of a Trojan Horse.

    The Android app ecosystem offers a reliable counter measure against such unwarranted and malicious modifications, and that is by digitally signing applications with the actual developers' certificates.

    However, how many users examine the applications they install on their devices?

    The infected applications contained the Android version of the Unrecom RAT, a multi-platform remote access tool.

    - Taking photos;
    - Recording audio through the microphone;
    - Current GPC location;
    - List of installed application;
    - List of opened webpages;
    - List of placed calls;
    - Contact List;
    - SMS (regular or Whatsapp)

    This RAT sounds like a interesting little rat :huh: .

  6. One thing I learned about 'cleaning up un-needed apps', make sure to not uninstall Microsoft or Windows related apps or (I have an Hewlett Packard PC) anything that came pre-installed with your PC via the particular brand of PC you bought. I have plenty of junk apps that sound third-party (or 4th party) that I never use like Cinema Now Media Manager, CyberLink DVD Suite Deluxe, LightScribe System Software, etc., blah blah blah.

    It's all junk to me. But when I started uninstalling a few of them some very wonky stuff began happening to my display and audio and system. You know the massive Hive. And then there's shared dll's and common files, etc.

    Most of the times I uninstall any preinstalled software for example that Cinema Now Media Manager, CyberLink DVD Suite Deluxe, LightScribe System Software. HP loves to preinstall a lot of free applications with their laptops now.

    Why do I do it some may ask, the answer is simple it's not a driver to make something work.

    Most users run the installer for drivers and this install a lot of additional junk that most users will never use.

    Example mother board drivers and their tune up utilities, if you only look for the .sys and .ini files on the DVD provided you can install 99% of your drivers you will ever need without any extra overhead.

  7. Hey there,

    I have tested this on my v4.16.7643 and all seems to work.

    What I have done is, right click on the file name and click on "Select All of Type" this checked all files with the same file extention excluding one within the same group of duplicate files.

    Note: File Finder is still in debate with some users on the forum, it has a lot of bugs and false hits. So make sure you manually check some of the files.

  8. Cleaning a PC is like cleaning once house, you start with the obvious.

    First uninstall all none essential software via Programs and Features or normal uninstallers.

    Then you start removing files manually example music, photos, excreta (SIDE NOTE: just make 100% sure you backup the files, if you needed to)

    Then you start with the "hard" hitting cleaners.
     CCleaner would do a good job, right click on a entry and just say Analyze if you get any results check it. After you analyzed all entries on both Windows and Applications tab and checked all that's needed run the Cleaner part.

    After all the cleaning is done you can run Defraggler just to tidy up your hard drive for you.

    On another side note:
    By just running Microsoft Security Essentials you are most likely not 90% covered from Malware. It is strongly recommended that you get dedicated Malware software like Malwarebytes.

  9. Well seeing you are running Vista, what is your CPU and RAM spec ?

    Have you tried to uninstall all none essential software that you haven't used in the last two years or so ?

    By going on your post it seems you are not running any Malware software for example Malwarebytes. Give it a try maybe there is something slowing your system down.
