  1. CCleaner 2.x does support double byte. It is not Unicode aware because it needs to run on Win9x and MSLU would have to be part of the installer.

Anyway, can you please post more details of the machine and OS version you are using so people at Piriform can know what is really going on?

Win XP Pro Sp2 32bit OS

    AMD64 3000+

1 GB Dual Channel PC3200 DDR

    3 SATA HD's.. C: 500GB D: 160GB E: 200GB

Have East Asian Languages installed and play some Japanese games using applocale.. Hence I have unicode entries in my registry.

  2. I don't believe CCleaner supports double byte character operating systems yet.

No it doesn't yet. So it should ask if you would like to skip instead of just stopping in the middle of cleaning. Or by default not check them type of characters. As it is now you don't know what is wrong unless you know it doesn't support double byte characters. In older version it would just continue and give message at end it was not able to fix them entries.

  5. I won't even use the new Ad-Aware it sucks. No longer can you have it installed on a flash rom and stick it in a computer and run it without installing it. Just another service to hog up computer resources so I now exclusively use Spybot and HijackThis for all my needs.

Can't wait to see the new CCleaner here. I use browsers like lolifox so to make it compatible with CCleaner I used ntfs junctions to make the Firefox paths point to the Lolifox folders so the method to keep cookies will work. Would be nice if it was possible to set paths to browsers like firefox or something manually and not read the data from the registry so that it will work with all modded browsers ;) Second feature I would really love to see is file exclusions too so I can use custom folder to delete all the crap in a specific folder without deleting the necessary files. Because of the lack of file exclusion I am currently not able to use the convenience and power of CCleaner to clean many folders.

I'm also available as a beta tester and have beta tested many softwares as well as did some application development with Delphi so I have a little knowledge on finding out why something crashes or doesn't work right.

  6. New version freaked out while running a scan. It was over 32000% and still counting when I stopped it. I than hit scan button again and it did nothing that time. I had to exit Recuva and restart it to start scanning again and work correctly.

  7. :D

    v1.01.043 Beta

    - Memory management improvements.

    - Ctrl+A now selects all items in the list view.

    - Dynamic handling of removable drives.

    - Added warning if you try to recover to the same drive as the source files.

    - Tweaked detection of non-NT processor specifications.

    - Changes to initial memory allocation algorithm.

    - Interface tweaks.

    http://www.recuva.com/download

This is the first version that has successfully run even once. But seems to be a serious memory issue it topped out at 160,764 K in memory useage. I also noted it used no less than 97-99% of cpu while running.

  8. Well I ran the new release of recuva and still crashes with no error log file being created. I haven't seen the application make an error log file since the test version .23. So what changed from logging in test version .23 that logs properly and the later releases?

  9. Same issue but with 2 drives and one is a samsung and another is a maxtor. No it's not the brand or model of the drive.. We pretty much determined from my other thread that it's the amount of files found on the drive. The next version may fix the issue. Until than you could use a program like eraser to delete old files.. so that it can be used to recover newer files that you need to recover. I myself will hold off so that my 70K plus files found can be used to determine if the next release fixes the issue or not.

  10. #1. This isn't a CCleaner thread.

#2. More than likely it's a buffer overflow and is causing the program to crash. This should be able to fix easily (I think). I will see if I can reproduce this error, but I don't I can delete 70,000 files or so.

well one method could be to copy your win XP cd which has thousands of files onto a HD a few times.. than delete them.. wallah.. you will have tens of thousands of files soon.. Tho mine are from downloads.. files extracted.. than moved to the storage drives.. and deleted off the download drive.. adds up after a while ;p

  11. Ok I found a possible reason for application crash. I have determined I can run it on Drive E just fine but it only fins just a little over 19K in files found.. But on drive D it finds over 78K in files found.. and drive C it finds over over 76K in files found. Drive E processing finishes just fine but both Drive C and D during processing crashes. So it seems the amount of files has something to do with the application crashes.

  13. Here is the error message I got reported in the event viewer just after it finished scanning for deleted files.

Application popup: Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger : An unhandled win32 exception occurred in recuva.exe [5680]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time.

Check the documentation index for 'Just-in-time debugging, errors' for more information.

  14. I always get error 75 Path/File access error when I try to manage Firefox cookies with Cclean.

I've posted the problem but I get no response.

You should be able to go to Option/Cookies and list the cookies you want deleted and the ones you want to keep.

    If only it worked! :(

Works great for me. But one thing I have noticed firefox has to be not running when you use ccleaner. Otherwise the files are locked and temporary files, history, and cookies will not clean.

  15. Adjustable settings for the temp folder time for file deletion. 48 hours is just way too long but since I have stupid programs like Wallpaper Cycler that probably won't get updated for a long time it stores files in the temp folder. So I need to be able to set how old files are to be deleted. 48 hours is way to long when doing alot of file extractions because that folder gets large but if I uncheck that box than I have files that shouldn't be deleted being deleted.

I need something more customizeable since file exception doesn't exist for CCleaner. Here I have CCleaner and currently it's totally unuseable for me to clean my folders that I need cleaning because it's either delete all files or delete files older than 48 hours. I would also like to see this same option apply to custom folders also so I can quit having to manually delete files all the time.

  16. Since it took all of us here some time to get the gist of what you are really want - as far as I know, CCleaner doesn?t make any differences between the Cookies you want to keep and the Cookies you have cleared for deletion - it just deletes your Cookies if you want so.

There probably was a reason why Twisted Metal has left out the "Cookie-Section" in his path-advice for you.

I have heard somewhere, that there is a function within FF or your Loli-Fox to export wanted Cookies and store them separately - just make sure it is a sealed box - otherwise the cat might get them :)

    Oliver

That was what I was afraid of. CCleaner does for IE, Firefox, and Mozilla but he seems to have developed some special method for cleaning the files for these browsers. I have quite the list of cookies to keep in CCleaner but seems that method won't work for other browsers at all. Wish their was a method to use the procedures for firefox in lolifox but looking at the winapp.ini it has special_det feature so that wouldn't work for other browsers.

  17. Ahh I see what I was doing wrong the last is a pipe for the filename.

Thanks will try that.. btw I see your correct it was view 97 times. Reason I just stopped using IE and went to lolifox. Stupid IE doesn't even refresh the pages properly and it was still only showing like 3 views or so even after a refresh.

BTW if I was to do the same with the cookies.txt would that delete the entire file? Afraid it won't keep my cookies that are in the exception list box.
