i guess i dont need to worry about trim missing to mark deleted data because eventually ssd file system and OS file system of files valid and invalid be be synced
-
but if there no trim enabled then OS cant tell the ssd that block is invalid so garbage collection will keep moving that invalid data around
new writes will go to all free pages until none are left or until it hits a threshold then garbage collection is forced to look for invalid data
ive read that some garbage collection can somehow search for invalid data and mark it without trim telling it but takes longer
-
talking about defraggler zerofill for ssd's
but what does zerofill fill drive with 1 or 0's
does zerofill fill the blocks with data or not
or does it write 1's to blocks to reset them to clean state
if the ssd dont support trim how can garbage collection know that data is deleted
-
i dont understand why defragger zero fill writes 0's to drive
should't it be writing binary 1's to pages and blocks
because how ssd programs pages and blocks
Programmed block = binary value 0
erased block = binary value 1
or is it just to fill pages and blocks with data so after it deletes the data the ssd triggers trim command on all these blocks
but it it mostly for ssd's that dont support trim
or am i getting confused because file disk view is showing 0's even though it a binary 1
-
it easy to trim a ssd in windows 7 and up with powershell
Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter c -ReTrim -Verbose
output-

Backed allocations seem to stay that same don't know exactly what it means /likely means max number of trimmed allocations it can do at once
Allocations trimmed will change
in command line defrag tool there is 2 ways
defrag c: /o /v
defrag c: /L /v
/O Perform the proper optimization for each media type.
/L Perform retrim on the specified volumes.
/V Print verbose output containing the fragmentation statistics.

i noticed yesterday in defragger when i highlighted a fragmented file to see what blocks it was in it was always marking first one but the file it not even listed in it
even after fragmenting drive then updating Microsoft security signatures again same thing happens
it clearly marking wrong blocks for the file
i did screen shots to show you

does anyone know what will happen if you delete $UsnJrnl:$J from system
i know i have no software that uses it exept NTFS file system keeping track of system changes
-
i have same issue $UsnJrnl:$J gets so big before i had to reinstall my system my $UsnJrnl:$J size was massive i had not reinstalled my system for yrs the size at last time i checked was 6 or 7 GB of a 40GB drive i had more files on system then
but i reinstalled xp pro and check like day later or so on sept 24 2013
it was around 55,313Kb
now on nov 14 2013 it's around
in app 399,279KB
in log 408861280KB
i do not know if $UsnJrnl:$J gets created right away when installing os
becuase first time i looked it was not there
im pretty sure it was not there untill 1 day or 2 after installing OS
can someone confirm this for me if $UsnJrnl:$J gets created right away or not when installing os

my hard drive speed is normal and it in DMA mode
this problem has to do with defraggler
i removed more game files but it not helping seems it memory priority problem i have it on normal but still very slow
and allso how it moving files i will try to explain behavior
lets say it a free space block to fill that block with files it will move files that is in front of that block but will moving files all over the place
instead of picking closest files that fit
this problem need to be fixed
please only moderators/defraggler programmers reply
thanks

i removed alot of large files from drive and ran it it still takes long time it had nothing to do with the free space fragments
it is reading/writing extra slow alot slower then drive speed
my drive reads and writes at 40MB /s
it very hard to explain behavior at some drive locations on drive
i will try to do a screen shot and mark locations
-
there so many files
the only thing i think i can do is move each file to end of drive and add it to excluded list 1 at a time
this will take a while
-
i have plenty of free space around 9.35Gb
using other defrag programs this does not happen
it moving same files that do not get modified
-
system restore files i have excuded and
some other large files excuded
my page file is set with one size
it so many files it will be too hard to list them
i do not think i can explain any better
