Yeah. I also think that "Offline defrag" means defragging specific core system files at bootup time.
-
The system probably created a restore point before defragging.

Running Defraggler 1.21.209 on Windows XP Pro SP3. I've had a situation occur repeatedly where after I shut down Defraggler, it continues to run in the background, chewing up 75-95% of my CPU cycles. I have used Systinternals Process Explorer to watch it do this for several minutes before killing it. Any idea what's going on, or what additional information I can give you to help resolve it?
Defraggler 2.0 is out. Can you test this version?
-
It's not a big deal anyway, isn't it?
-
I disagree. CC will probably get bloated that way and it's not a very useful feature.
-
Latest four digits are BUILD version, so it makes sense.
-
Boot Time Defrag is at a very early stage. Using it can be risky. I would wait until Defraggler comes out of ?eta stage.
-
I hope it gets fixed in final version.

Thanks for the heads up Romanoff.

I think that's the location where Restore Points are kept. You better do a new restore point before defragging and them delete all older restore points using the windows cleanup util.
-
Some applications like Paragon Partition Manager (or Paragon Defrag) can shrink the MFT.
-
I am going to give it a whirl on my games partition.

Hello.
Just a short question. Does defraggler take into account prefetch layout files (.PF and layout.ini)?. I think it doesn't but I want to be sure.
-
It seems a nice idea.

I think Piriform is busy making v2.x ready for release (I hope so, though).
-
In my humble opinion Defraggler 2.x is one of the slowest defragmenters (at least in full defrag mode). I have tried dozens of them and Defraggler is the slowest. I like Piriform apps. very much though. I am looking forward to incoming version 3 which I think it will address a lot of issues.

I think the disk pie could me made smaller or even relocated too.
-
It seems Vista have created some Restore Points prior to defragmenting. Is there a disk cleanup utility under Vista? I am running XP.

That's an odd error because Defraggler doesn't touch the $MFT file.
-
Have you tried using any Linux LiveCD or BartPE BootCD to access the drive outside your Operating System? Maybe the data is still accessable. I find quite strange that Defraggler may have cause your problem. It seems more like a hardware problem to me.
-
I disagree. Most frequent programs are probably more modified ones too. So my two cents are...
1a.- $MFT, Metadata and other NTFS important files.
1b.- Folders & subfolders
2.- Boot files (prefetch, layout.ini, whatever)
3.- Rarely modified files
4.- Frequently modified files
5.- Big files at the end?

Thanks. I will test it when I return back from work.

I think performance boost would be minimal. I think it just depends on how big read/write buffer is. RAM memory is used anyway.

Good luck them. I find unfair to make comparisons here. Just use whatever defragmenter that suits your needs.
