  1. How are you defragmenting? I usually defragment on-a-file basis, from the file list report. Maybe those files you spoke of are the System Volume Information files (Restore Points) that cannot be touched. I think there is some option under preferences to not include SVF in reports. Check it out.

  2. I have made several tests and I have found out that MyDefrag actually fragments my already defragmented MFTs. I prefer Defraggler all the way. Maybe Mydefrag scripts are powerful but I do not want to go offtopic and I found them uncomfortable and very user unfriendly.

  3. I am pretty sure defragging the MFT cannot be done using Windows defrag internal APIs (used by most free defragmenters). That's way Windows defrag is also unable to process MFT and that's why it's hard to implement. Additional standalone code would be needed. I might be wrong though.

  4. That doesn't make too much sense because DF is quite safe when defragmenting. I would perform a checkdisk on that drive first and check for hardware issues afterwards too. Is it an internal drive or an USB external one? If so, check USB connections as they tend to dislodge after some time.

  5. I advise to use Quick Defrag on those scenarios or Analyzing the drive and defragging files individually from the file list. Regular defrag is a time consuming operation because in addition to defragging it fills all gaps between files and thus, it has to move/shuffle all data around.

  6. CCleaner has displayed the CPU MHZ/GHZ fine for years.

Why not show whether a user has 1, 2, 4, 6 cores, etc?

I personally would love a better way to know my netbook is dual core than to have to use the task manager!

    Thanks!

    Speccy?

  7. If you reformat and continue to use XP the reserved area will still be there. Vista/7 use a different approach to alleviate future MFT fragmentation and do not allocate that "reserved space" as XP does. In fact, I have installed Seven a few days ago (I was using XP) and now that gap can be filled with data when defragmenting.
