thanks lokoike,made new folder my downloads,so hopefully they will go in there,as you know i have just downloaded and upgraded firefox on my destop theres this icon saying firefox set up,is this needed any more,many thanks for your help
Nope, you can delete it unless you think you may want to reinstall FF in the future. Of course, even if you do delete it and need it in the future, you can always redownload it, so you might as well get rid of it.

just noticed the options menu,thats alot better,not knowing what i am doing have just left it as it was when downloaded,just one question,when i download stuff why does it download to the desktop,if this is normal is it ok to delete when the files have been extracted thanks
The desktop is the default location that files are downloaded to. If you have a folder that you would rather your downloads go into, you can specify this by going into Firefox's options, clicking the Download button at the top, and choosing the location. For example, I have all of my downloads go into a folder called "Downloads" located under My Documents.
And after you extract or install whatever was contained in your downloaded item, you can safely remove it. However, if you download something that you may want to install in the future, it might save you time to keep the installer in a safe place in case it needs to be used again.

A little late now, but I just thought I'd mention one thing I really like about 1.5 as opposed to 1.0 is the redesigned Options window. I feel it has a more logical and easy-to-use setup than the previous version did.

lokoike: Can I have your log too? Also, download the new build at the same address and see if the serial number gets properly trimmed. If it doesn't, then that means those spaces aren't really spaces, but are some other character that looks like spaces (like a tab), which is like that because of your drive. I may be able to see such characters in a saved log and filter them out in future builds.

It's funny, I just wrote this little program yesterday which checks SMART status, so give it a shot and post a log from it (right-click the top pane, Save...)

Ha! Love the name.
Just tried it out on my computer, and it worked great. The only problems I noticed was that it put too many spaces before the serial number (see below), and when it saves the log to a file, it doesn't give it an extension (even though when you are saving it, it says it will save it as a .txt document).
Not too shabby for an app written in a day.
Do you plan on making periodic updates to it, or was it just something you wrote for fun? -

Yeah, I'm lucky to be posting here now. My microwave died this morning, and being a bachelor, I was sure that I would've starved to death by about noon or so.

You can make any kind of installer you like... as long as the program unpacks the files, places them in the proper folder as specified by the user, and registers the OCXs and whatnot that the program uses. You could make the installer in whatever language; that part doesn't matter.

I agree. I think both the installer packages and the websites they are obtained from should contain a message stating that Kaspersky's warnings are erroneous, and maybe even suggest that an alternative antivirus is used until this problem is fixed. If KAV's makers realize that people are foregoing their product due to a bug, maybe then they'll start considering paying attention to other software makers, such as MrG.

I was reading about this the other day, the windows resource monitor.
Is there a reason why they stopped including it after windows ME ?
If you scroll down to about the middle of the page, it says:
The Resource Meter is not available for Windows XP or Windows 2000 because those NT operating systems handle resources much more efficiently.Apparently the New Technology File System (what a lame name) fixed that problem in 2000/XP. Thanks for the useful info, hazelnut.

An Athlon 2000+ shouldn't hardly generate any heat in the first place. The stock cooler that comes with it should be more than adequate. I've installed several Athlon 3200+'s which use the same cooler, and they don't get anywhere near that hot!
So, my best guess is either your mobo's thermometer is way off, or you didn't properly attach the cooler or the cooler's power cable for the fan.
Have you mounted a cooler on a CPU before? They can be kind of tricky for first-time users, so perhaps the heatsink isn't contacting the CPU. Also, if you didn't hook the fan's power cable into the correct spot on the mobo, your fan may not be running. It wouldn't take long for your heatsink/CPU to overheat, and if you do that too many times, your proc is toast! Make sure everything is properly attached and contacting before you start it up again.
Your GPU wouldn't affect the CPU's temperature (unless it is blowing its heat right on the CPU), although it could potentially be the reason your comp keeps crashing, assuming the CPU temp reader is faulty and your CPU is okay.
Let me know what you find out.

Hmm... I wish I knew how to code in JS, all I've ever really done is BASIC. I have a suggestion, but I don't know if JS offers the capabilities to do it. Say you want a 4-digit whole number (anywhere from 0-9999):
Use the random function to create a random number, and then multiply it by 10. Then truncate it (as opposed to rounding it) so that the remainder is dropped and you are left with a whole number between 0-9. The reason you truncate instead of round is so that you don't accidently end up with 10 as your number. Hopefully JS has a truncate feature...
Then take that number and save it as a string. Hopefully JS can save numbers as strings...
Then, do the same process three more times, saving each of the numbers as strings, so that JS treats them like text instead of like numbers.
Once you have four 1-digit numbers saved as strings, add all of the strings together to make it one 4 character string. Perhaps you ended up with the numbers 0, 3, 4, and 1. Turn them into strings ("0","3","4", and "1") and add them together ("0341"). Hopefully JS can add the strings that you were hopefully able to make in the first place...
And finally, convert your 4-character string back into a number, in this case 341. Hopefully JS can do that too...
So, needless to say, this suggestion is based totally on the premise that JS contains basic string functions. If it does, that should solve your problem.
