  1. ...permanently on english WinXP + SP3 when running the actual clean (not when starting or configuring) See attached Snapshot
  2. As an alternative CCleaner could start at boot time with Win(XP) and remain in the Systray (or even invisible resp. visible only in TaskManager). When the user logoff or the computer is shutdown CCleaner will do its cleaning. With this kind of run in background no gpedit or Registry handling is necessary. On the other side it would have the advantage to let CCleaner wipe the tracks at the end of a session. For me its an important point and security issue. If I forgot to start CCleaner manually on my laptop and the laptop gets stolen then the tracks are still existing on my hard disc. If CCleaner would clean at logoff/shutdown these tracks were destroyed. Many other program use this background runnign trick. Why not CCLeaner? Thomas
  3. That would be a nice option for the next release of CCleaner Instead of letting the user fiddle around in some nested, hidden Group Policy editors or Registry branches CCleaner should offer a simple checkbox which let it run at shutdown time. Internally CCleaner could imitate the manual GroupPolicy entry. Is this feasible in the next release? Peter
  4. Can I simply install a newer version of CC over an already existing older version of CC? Or is an uninstall of the older version required? How can I keep the settings of the older version? Thomas
  5. Does CCleaner create a log file (when activation an option on demand) where all previously wiped items are listed? Or even better: Can CCleaner popup a log window which lists all currently wiped/processed items/sections? Thomas
  6. Is it possible to run CCleaner just before shutdown (=not at startup) ? Maybe this is possible through using "Group Policy" editor: Start->Run->"gpedit.msc"->User Configuration->Windows Settings->Scripts->Logoff Did anyone tried this out? What parameters do I have to pass to CCleaner at the command line to run it silently (without prompts) ? Thomas
  7. Really? At least O&O Defrag has such an option. Furthermore two other programs (I don't rmemember their name) as well. The reason for such a sort order is to group files together which are most probably read and used together. Say a program has 15 DLLs and 3 config files and 10 help files and more stuff in one directory. If I load/start later the program then the hard disc head position movements are reduced to a minimum. All the stuff can load in one step from one sector of the hard disc.
  8. I am NOT talking about the visible result list as it is shown in Defraggler. I am talking about the physical order in which the files are stored on the hard disc!!! Does Defraggler have this option? Thomas
  9. Just a third remark: I prefer to not only defrag the hard disc but adjust sorting files to alphabetical path and filname. So D:\aaa\bbb.zip comes before D:\bbb\aaa.zip More and more defrag programs offer this option. Could Defraggler include this option as well in the next release ? Thank you Thomas
  10. I would appreciate if Defraggler would offer in the next release the option to reduce the size of the squares representing the defragmentation. Smaller size means finer granularity means more informations. Furthermore I miss some explanation of the colors for the squares. Where do I find this information? Thomas
  11. When I started Defraggler it consumes almost all the CPU capacity. The WinXP desktop is nearly frozen. Even when set the priority in TaskManager to "idle" all CPU power is attracted by Defraggler. I suggest to a) Introduce a "Pause" button which suspends the defragmentation process until it is resumed again and b.) implement more cooperative multitasking. When another program requests some CPU capacity then Defraggler should be willing to reduce its own share. Thomas
  12. Do you really mean CCleaner cannot detect Temporary Internet Folder because they are located on a partition other than C ??? What reason can be the reason that CC cannot accomplish such a simple task? I cannot believe it.
  13. I would appreciate very much if the Cookie management view could show the Cookie creation and last modified date. Is this possible in the next release? Thomas
  14. Assume I setup CCleaner in "Policy Editor" to run on shutdown/logoff of WinXP. When I perform now an "Analyze" run then the index.dat files are listed with "Marked for deletion". Ok when should the deleteion take place? At next reboot or at next shutdown according to my setting? Thomas
  15. In IntExp 6 (under WinXP) menu Tools->InternetOptions->General->TemporaryInternetFiles I set a new folder to keep all me temp files: D:\temp\Temporary Internet Files\ The content should be deleted from CCleaner as well. However CCleaner does NOT detect this folder although I checked this on the todo list. At least the new folder is NOT listed when I perform an "Analyze" run. Why? Does CCleaner have a problem with folders outside the C: partition? How can I find out the other folders behind the entries? E.g. what folder uses CCleaner as "Last Download Location"? Thomas
  16. Ok, when I goto Options->Cookies there are (currently) NO cookies in the "to keep" pane. I went back to Cleaner tab and Run Cleaner ("Cookies check box under Internet Explorer" is enabled) After the run I went back to Options->Cookies and much to my surprise in the "Cookies to delete" pane there are still some (a lot of) cookies. Shouldn't they have been deleted by the previous run ? Even if I close and re-open CCleaner these Cookies are still alive (=no refresh problem) Why ? I am using WinXP+SP2
  17. How do I save the current settings of CCleaner? Are they all included in the *.ini files in the installation directory ? Or are there settings stored in the registry (or somewhere else)? If I want to upgrade to a new version of CCleaner: Do I have to uninstall the old version?
  18. How do I call and run CCleaner from command line ? Is there a way to prevent the popup of the window GUI and let CCleaner do the job quitely in the backgroud (or at least minimized in the taskbar) ?
  19. This is NOT true. Setup a logoff script (at least under Win2000/WinXP) as follows: 1.) In "run" enter gpedit.msc 2.) goto LocalComputerPolicy->User Configuration->WindowsSettings->Scripts (Logon/Logoff) 3.) Click on the right pane on logoff and add a script e.g. mylogoffscript.bat This script is executed at every logoff However this is very, very unconvenient but it shows that it is possible in general Why not including this feature in CCleaner? Alternatively: Ok, as you said, implement and start CCleaner as a service and execute it at shutdown.
  20. I found only an option "Run CCleaner when the computer starts" but NOT "...exits" Hey, thats a very strong security hole. If I forget to perform CCleaner manually all entries and tracks leave on my computer hard disc. Wouldn't it be much more useful to offer an option to run CCleaner AUTOMATICALLY when a shutdown is performed ?
  21. I don't want to run CCleaner at startup but at shutdown. This should be done automatically. Is this possible (in future versions) ? Currently all tracks which should be erased remain on the harddisc until the next startup. Hence a bad guy can mount the extracted harddisc on another computer and get the information which actually should be erased. To achieve this CCleaner must be started at startup and hide in the Systray. Other Washer Software (e.g. Webroots WindowWasher) can do this.
  22. Unfortunately there are no naming convention for cookies. Most of the cookies are named directly after the product/web page. However there are a lot of cookies with a prefixes like: forum.xxxxxx forums.xxxxxx www.xxxxxx When I want to search for a particular cookie in the Cookies section this can be sometimes confusing. Could you introduce a second column in the entry fields "Cookies to keep" and "Cookies to delete" where the prefixes "forum", "forums" and "www" are removed ? Thank you
  23. Because my partition C: is very small I moved the "Temporary Internet Files" folder to D:\temp. However CCleaner does NOT detect the new location and hence does NOT delete the contents including the index.dat. Please include deletion in future versions.
  24. As far as I can see there is NO option to minimize CCleaner to Systray? It is always minimized to taskbar.
  25. It seems to me that in the Issue Analyzation section only the file integrity (target existence) for shortcuts on the desktop and start menu is verified. Why not introducing an extended option to check the file integrity of shortcuts which are located somewhere in the directory of lets say the partition D:\ as well? Thomas
