When will this option be implemented?

I installed Defraggler on an USB flash drive and setup the options according to my needs. And I enabled "Save all settings to ini file"! The *.ini file in installation directory is created. When I plug out now the USB flash drive and insert it in another computer and start it there, then all my previous settings are reset to the default values. Why? Do 64bit and 32bit version of Defraggler share the same *.ini file? Does it matter if the InstallPath in *.ini file is different? As a new drive letter is assigned on second computer the InstallPath is not valid any more. Thomas

Since a few weeks/versions when I start CCleaner on 64bit Win 7 a popup appears automatically at startup: "The following application(s) need to be closed to view cookies: Internet Explorer Do you want CCleaner to close them?" When I click "NO" then another popup appears telling me something about Edge browser. Why do I have to close Internet Explorer? This was not required in earlier version of CCleaner. And No, I don't have an Edge browser installed but a simple IntExp 11. So how can I forever disable these warnings? Peter

I downloaded the free available utility ExecutedProgramList from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/executed_programs_list.html and run it on my computer. Much to my surprise it reveals all programs I executed in the past ALTHOUGH I run CCleaner frequently. May I request to add an option in CCleaner to wipe these data as well According to another thread http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=45003 just some Registry keys must be deleted to achieve this. I setup CCleaner (under 64bit Win 7) to start automatically at WinOS startup. It works. However CCleaner window is started minimized in Systray. I prefer to view full CCleaner window when it is started at Win 7 boot time. How can I achieve this? Thomas

Occasionally I have to recover huge file archives from certain directories on external USB hard disks. When I use Recuva with DeepScan I have to wait at first approx 3 hours until the DeepScan run is finished. Afterwards I have to select which directories to recover and where to place the recovered files. In the second step I have to wait again for some hours until recover job is done. So when I launch the first DeepScan job in the evening before I leave office/university and return next morning I still have to do the second step. This is annoying. Since it should be easy to show almost immediately the deleted directory tree (other undelete tools can) Recuva should be able to group step 1 + 2. Recuva should show all the deleted folders, let the user choose which to recover and where to copy the files BEFORE all starts. Then Recova should start the deepscan and proceed as soon as it is finished automatically with the recovering. Could you add this option in the next release? Thank you Thomas

When I look at the colored defragmentation map for a certain partition: Is the following then always correct: Top of map = beginning of partition = slowest part of the hard disk access ? Thomas

Assume I want to defrag two partitions (on two different hard discs). Can I do this SIMULTANEOUSLY with Defraggler? In other words: Can I start two instances of Defraggler and let them both do their job independently? Or do they confuse each other (because they share common ressources/cache dirs,...)? Thomas

In menu Options-->Include users can define additional files to be wiped. But what if I don't want to specify the exact folder location but only a folder pattern. Example: In a directory tree D:\appserver\ I want to wipe all folder sub trees which match the pattern *cache*. So the following folders should be wiped for example D:\appserver\mycache\ D:\appserver\foo\bar\cacheold\ D:\appserver\another\sub\folder\cache\ Unfortunately I cannot specify in CCleaner something like D:\appserver\*cache*\*.* or D:\appserver*\*cache*\*.* Mind all the * Is this possible somehow else? I downloaded recently the very good free and easy utility tools LastActivityView from here: LastActivityView - View the latest computer activity in Windows operating system and MyEventViewer from here Alternative to standard event viewer of Windows and run them. Much to my surprise they show ALL my activities since I setup my 64bit Win 7 system in 2010. I thought that CCleaner will wipe them because I checked in section "System" the entry "Windows log files" I think this is a bug. Why does CCleaner not wipe the log entries? Thomas

Currently CCleaner is (automatically) started after I login into my account. Is it possible to setup CCleaner so that it is automatically started after boot but BEFORE Login? In other words it should already run when the Logon (welcome) screen appears on the desktop screen but I do not login. Thomas

I would appreciate if CCleaner woul provide in the next release an /RESTART flag similar to the /SHUTDOWN cmdline flag. Yes, I know, users can simulate a restart by creating a batch file and put an additional "shutdown" command inside. But this is somehow swkward and unhandy. I want to let CCleaner AUTOMATICALLY run at user logoff event and at shutdown. NO, I don't want to use the /SHUTDOWN cmdline flag because - This would require one more shortcut icon on my desktop - I could accidentially forgot to click it and use the traditional "shutdown" in START menu - I have to explain the new shutdown shortcut method to other people using the computer - /SHUTDOWN does not work when user just switches but not full shutdown is performed So gpedit.msc is normally the best place to put such a logoff/shutdown task (see attached snapshot). Surprisingly it seems to me that CCleaner64 (under 64bit Win7) does only perform certains tasks (e.g. wiping Internet Temporary files) but not all (e.g. Cookies are NOT wiped). Why? Is there a way to tell CCleaner to show automatically up its main (progress) window at runtime? Currently it does its (partial) job silently in background at shitdown/logoff time. Thomas

Thank you for the answer, BUT: I have a pretty fast hard disc (under 64bit Win7 with quad core CPU). No Anti-Virus tool is scanning hard disc accesses. Yes, there could be thousand files. BUT I cannot imagine that this is a reason. There are other (one-purpose) eraser tools like "Heidi Ersaer" http://eraser.heidi.ie/ or Wipefile http://www.gaijin.at/dlwipefile.php which erase (with one-pass overwrite as well) gigabytes of directory trees within seconds or approx 3% of the time of CCleaner. So I guess its an sub-optimal deletion procedure/algorithm built-in in CCleaner. Could this be check? Reducing disk cache of IntExp like Andavari suggested is not an option. Same with disabling overwriting (why do I need security tool like CCleaner if I do not use the security features?). Thank you Thomas

When run CCleaner at startup of my 64bit Win7 then it takes approx. 10 to 15 minutes (!) to erase (with 1 pass overwrite) all the Internet Explorer cache files in temporary folder. This is very, very long. Can this be speed up somehow? The problem is that I cannot call Internet Explorer during call. Because Internet Explorer would retrieve new files from Internet which are erased as well by CCleaner. So CCleaner should at least find out which are "old" files (files with a last acces date old than its start date) and erase only them. Can this be implemented in the next release? Thank you Thomas

When I go to CCleaners Option page in section "System--->Windows Error Reporting" then I can mark the checkbox so that currently EXISTING Error Reports are deleted at the next run. But is there a way (in Win7) do prevent/disable the creation of such Error Reports in future (so that there is no need to clean them later with CCLeaner) ? Thomas

@Nergal: In my inital post I didn't ask for advice if I should/could delete these files but HOW to delete them with CCleaner. Not all the files which Microsoft declares "important" are really important. I could show you a many forum postings and articles which confirm that it does not harm a computer seriously when deleting them. Furthermore: Do you really think that hiding files or declaring them as "system" really does them protect from becoming infected?? On another system I wiped these "Managed" folder manually and my system worked fine for months! So all together CCleaner should not care about if it is meaningful what the user want to wipe but that it really cleans them. Until know I found no way to tell CCleaner to wipe all files in C:\Windows\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed\* Is there really no way? Thomas

I specified that CCleaner should clean all Temporary Internet Files and overwrite them with 1 pass. This operation lasts occasionally here 10-20 minutes (even on a quad-core system). When I look in the output window then mostly files like D:\temp\Temporary Internet files\Content.IE5\XYTHXA41\foobar.xxxx are wiped. I guess these are cached files for Internet Explorer. Now lets assume I open IntExp (9) BEFORE the CCleaner ends and visit some web pages. Is the content of these new pages wiped as well? Or does CCleaner at first get a complete list of all files to wipe and ignore new added files during wiping processing? Second question: Can I lower somehow the wiping process priority? Thomas

As you know users can define additional directories which should be erased. How flexible are these directory definitions? Assume I want to clean all /log/ folders in the directory tree begging with the base directory "D.\data\2011\". Can Iwrite then: D:\data\2011\*\log\* Mind the first, embedded asteriks "*" !!! In other words are full rexexp/wildcards possible? Or do I really have to write all sub dirs like. D:\data\2011\test1\log\* D:\data\2011\test22\log\* D:\data\2011\test\prev\log\* ... D:\data\2011\backup\first\log\* D:\data\2011\pro\log\* Thomas

As you know CCLeaner is able to wipe all the fee space on the hard disc. Are only full free clusteres wiped? As you may know there is more "free" space in the so called slackspace. Assume a file foobar.exe allocates 95 clusters of 4096 bytes. But the last 95th cluster is not completely needed but only 500 bytes out of it. Then 4096-400=3596 bytes are unused free slackspace and may contain some private data from the last allocated file. Again: Does CCleaner wipe these slackspaces as well? Well known Heidi Eraser tool does wipe such slackspace. Thomas
