Session Cleaning under Mozilla will erase the saved tabs, untick it to prevent this.

Just look through this forum at the number of people who have had problems after cleaning their entire registry. The examples number in the 1000s if not more. The range of issues encountered are anywhere from a program no longer working, to not being able to open a known file type (i.e. .htm or .txt) to a computer being completly unable to boot and needing a fresh repair install of windows.

Good morning.
I have installed the latest version of ccleaner, and found something changed when using it after firefox.
When you close down firefox it asks if it should remember all the tabs that are open, which I find quite useful when logging on again.
IT always did that until last week, when I updated firefox... now, it no longer does...
Which one of the settings do I need to change to make that work again?

PS: Does anybody a place where I can find a list, which will tell me which firefox add-ons will still work and which ones not, after updating to a newer version???? It is such a nuisance, when they no longer work...

I must admit I do not know too much about computers on this leve, but... I have been using ccleaner regularly after every session for a few years now. I have always deleted every single registry line that turned up in ccleaner, never made a back-up, always deleted every single one, NEVER, not once had a problem... (I think)...
What can happen? A real example, or a few of them, could make me understand this...

on the desktop of my new computer with Windows 7, I can literally watch the kontext menu extending with every right klick. On some of those menues I can count 26 links..... I used to have a very simple software that made it easy to delete all of those links except the six or so, that I actually want to have, but I cannot remember the name of that software...
Anybody around here has an idea how to clean something that even cCleaner won't clean?

Internet Explorer is a core part of Windows.
Developers usually use the IE rendering engine to display websites from within their native applications.
For instance, Steam uses the IE rendering engine to display websites from within the Steam browser.
Other programs like XFIRE, Yahoo Messenger, AOL messenger, and so on, use the IE engine to display advertisements from within their messenger windows.
A lot of programs rely on the IE rendering engine in some way or another, and as a result, you'll always end up with IE cookies, temp files, and so on.
You can't really prevent it, because even if you delete IE, you'll only be deleting the front end. The rendering engine will still exist, and programs will still rely on it, and there's nothing you can really do.
edit: Try right clicking in a program like Steam and you'll quickly find that the context menu is exactly like the IE context menu.

I always use ccleaner before shutting down my computer. I use Firefox and NEVER us Internet Explorer.
Yet, when I use the cleaner, there are always IE files to delete... why?
Even when I have not have not used Firefox......
I do want anything from IE on my computer, is there a way to change something here?

my guess AU is reading the index.dat which won't be empty after a ccleaner run until the puter is restarted
did you actually verifiy the phyiscal files were still there after a cclean before an AU? (i.e. navigate to the folder that cookies are kept in after ccleaner cleans?)
Yes I did, and some of the cookies were quite old...

Yesterday I got a copy of Advanced Uninstaller. I tried it and came to a point "Cookies". I have been using ccleaner for a few years and always relied on its cookie deletion.....
Running Advanced Uninstaller however I found, that AFTER removing my cookies with ccleaner there were ?bout 300 (in words: THREE HUNDRED) cookies still on my machine. That other software then removed them---
So, I used my computer again as usual, afterwards I removed the cookies with ccleaner, and then checked again with A.U.
Result: Again approx 80 cookies were left....
Kindly tell me: What is going on?

I do not have this problem with Firefox 3.5.1. What version of CCleaner are you using?
I have solved it now, it had nothing to do with Ccleaner.
Firefox, as from 3.0.12 has disabled the storing of passwords, for security reasons they hav the nerve to tell me---
I found a few others who have had the same problems and hate to be told by a some software geek how to run his browser and his computer security. We have now all installed 3.0.11, which seems to be the last version that does not force this idiocy, and everything is fine....

Since I installed firefox 3.5.1 my computer no longer remembers passwords. F explains that this is intentional for "security reasons".
As a result cookies also do not reach Ccleaner any longer and can no longer be transferred to the "keep cookies" site---
I want my passwords to be saved, but I suppose without being able to allow cookies to trusted sites, I cannot save them? Is that correct?
Is there a way around this? Is there any way to go on saving passords now? Or do I simply have to re-install the older version of firefox again...?

Hello, just an update which may be helpful to one or the other user.
I have uninstalled all AVs except Malware, which I update and then use twice a week. I have uninstalled the "superior" firewall and I am now back to using the built-in windows firewall.
In the ccleaner start up list NOT ONE SINGLE program is now activated.
Since this change my computer starts up in less than 60 seconds. Since that day I have not had a single piece of mal-ware, no virus, no trojan.
This once again has convinced me, that most of the so-called computer specialists simply know NOTHING. They simply find something and then recommend it to everybody else. As everybody else also knows basically nothing, that starts a chain of silly, useless programms.
The resulting problem is, that without trying out programs on your own computer there is no way to find out about any single program.
So, thank you for CCleaner, one of the few useful really valuable ones.

Just one more note....
I uninstalled Zone Alarm and re-activated the windows firewall.
In another forum another "specialists" very convincingly explained that windows firewall is terrible and I will end up with all kinds of unwanted trojans and viruses.
I also unstilled avast and use only malware now. This will give me false positives, something I also did not know existed, before researching these anti virus programs..
Then I de-activated ALL program in the ccleaner start-up list..... not a single problem occurrred, everything works very smoothly, and the start up time is now again identical to that of a newly installed XP pro...
The big problem people like me have, is that because we are aware that we know pretty little about computers, we usually assume, that others know. In my experience more often than not, that assumption is very wrong. But when a bug turns up...what to do.... you have to sk someone..
So, again, many thanks to all of you, who helped me finding all this out....

Me too. Two, that is. As all your entries (but two) are disabled then you are not missing them running. I don't think it would make much difference if you deleted the entries, but it would make the list a lot cleaner. I don't know if you can get them back without reinstalling the relevant program, but if you're managing without them I wouldn't worry about that. Personally I prefer launching progs when needed, to having them autostarted, which is what the manufacturer wants you to do. Just about any of these programs can be started from the Start/Programs list.
I would take the advice and stop Zone Alarm and see how you get on. I use the XP firewall set to no exceptions, and the routers firewall set to whatever its default is.
How many processes do you have running? I have 23, but that is admittedly lean. You can Google the entries (except syshost) to find out where they came from. Go to your Services page (Ctl Panel etc) and set to manual those that you don't want. There will be some that obviously need stopping (from 3rd party applications) and other XP stuff that you don't need. As an example I have stopped and set to manual:
Ati Hotkey Poller
Automatic Updates ? (Revert to Auto/Started when doing updates)
Computer Browser ? (Should not be running, change to Manual)
Error reporting Services
Help and Support
Secondary Logon
Server? (Should not be running, change to Manual)
TCP/IP NetBios Helper
Web Client ? (Do not attempt to stop, will stop at next boot)
Windows Audio
Windows Time
Windows Zero Configuration (required for wireless connection)
Workstation
There may well be others to stop, and stopping some of these may make no noticable difference.
Many of these things apply to how you want to run your pc, so there is no set of rules that will apply to everyone. Do a little experimenting, a step at a time and rebooting, and see how you get on. I don't network devices, play games, download music stuff, or message anyone, so your needs will be different.
That is part my problem.... when I go to "processes running" I get a huge list of indecipherable entries. All of them at 0%, but still the computer runs slow... so I believe that these Windows "control" institutions are simple not working properly, that there are things installed that will not turn upon these pages.....
All the others I have certainly switched to manual anyway, but that does not help. As the example Real Player shows, it will simply reinstall itself.... and i suppose a lot of stuff does that, without even showing up on the list....

I have 9 entrys that run at startup, Things like quicktime real etc always add there self, which you dont need.
i dont see why people download firewall software, xp built in FW is good.
TBH, i see zonealarm as a virus in it's self.

I have two, and it seems that those two, the AV and the fireall, are those that should be there...
My point is that I do not believe that this is all there is.... When I install XP freshly it will run a lot faster. But "Windows Task manager" tells me nothing.... so I am using whatever I can find to help me find out more about this.... None of the suggested softwares tellme anything new. Some actually simply tell you that there is lots wrong with your computer and they simply want to sell their crap....

I would leave Synaptics to autostart. As you know, it is the touchpad and if you disable that your touchpad won't work until you enable it.
I suggest you concentrate on your firewall to speed up the start of your computer and leave the rest to autostart. Unless you know what you are doing you could cause problems.
Yes, that is what I believe myself. I will probably delete the Zonealarm again, although I do like it, when it asks me for permission every time a program wants to acces the internet....
But then, I never had any real problems with the simple Windows firewall.
What is the story with these f?rewalls which are supposedto be already integrated in the router? Does anybody have any experience with those?

Here I am, one o'clock in the morning, and typing IMJPMIG.exe/Spoil/RemAdvDef/MIgration32 into Google, which brings up 247,000 hits, of which the first (of many) tells you what it is. All this stuff is easily found with just a little effort. I'm off to bed.
This method usually brings up 247.000 hits, but does not give me answer. This one does, true.
But, why on earth is it in my autostart, and what will happen if I delete it, instead auf deactivate it?
And the next one I tried was Synaptics, yes it tells me approx. what it does. It does not tell why it is in the autostart and what would happen if I delete it. As I use a mouse will deactivating this, completetly deactivate my touchpad or will it only disable: which function under what circumstances...

One way to check if it is Zone Alarm or the antivirus that is causing the slow startup is to first disconnect your computer from the internet and then startup the computer with one and then both of these disabled. If the computer starts in next to know time then you can decide whether you want to keep these programs or look for an alternative.
Yes, Robbie, that is exactly my experience with Zone Alarm. I was hoping to get around the uninstalling and finding a new firewall by asking my question. Long ago I alrady tried the disconnected start-up without Zone, and it was fast...
Here, I wanted to find out the meaning of all the programs listed on the autostart page of ccleaner. Why they are there in the first place, as they are all activated (except Avast and Zone). What would it mean EXACTLY if I delete them from that list, would the computer be faster then? When I check the list before logging out from the computer, of all the programs there the only one, that is EVER also activated, is RealPlayer, after I have used it in my session. Not a single one of the other programs has EVER been activated....
Why is it so impossible to find out what the programs listed there actually are?
As you have the practical experience, is comodo better? Does it make sense to change?
Also, I keep hearing about firewalls being already integrated in every router anyway and the computer itself does not actually need another one...
Example: What exactly does a program do, which is called:
C:\ windows\IME\imjp8_1\IMJPMIG.exe/Spoil/RemAdvDef/MIgration32
This is just an example from the list. I am not intersted in that particular program, I am interested in what it does, why it is obviously impossible to find out what it is, and would happen if I delete from the autostart list, where it is deactivated anyway permanently.....

The real player is no problem, as I use ccleaner everytime before I log out, and also: Zone Alarm asks me before giving connecting privileges to realplayer.
Seems, that the processes that are listed on that autostart list will turn themselves on, when needed?
Why is it so impossible to get simple, readable, understandable information about what these processes mean?
I tried Google, but that info is completely useless for me...
What would happen if I were to delete everything ecept the two from that page, that I actually want?
Would delete actually mean "delete" from autostart, or only like "delete" when I empty my waetbasket, which does not mean "delete" at all.....
If only AV and Zone are on autostart, why does the computer take ages to start up?????????

as everybody, I suppose, I am unhappy with the time it takes my computer to be ready to go, after turning on the power.
In ccleaner there is a page in: extras: autostart, where all kinds of programs are listed.
All 20 are deactivated, except for my AV and the Zone Alarm (which is the worst as far as slowing down goes, I know)
But....
what exactly does it mean for all the items listed there, if they are deactivated?
What difference will it make, if I delete them all completely?
I saw that for examle that "realplayer" will reactivate itself every time after I have used it in the last session, but only then. No big problem, so I deactivate it again, but how does that puzzling autostart really function?

Hello,
I would like to find out which items in the start up list need to remain activated, and which can be deactivated.
I am afraid that link that is given in this thread is of no use to me.
At the moment there are 6 programs activated, but I remember having it working perfectly with only four at start up. But the names on the list do not mean anything to me, except my avast anti-virus program....
I would like a list of what really needs to be on my start up list...
I could send a screen shot if that is of any help?

My Windows7 does not remember some of the information I want it to remember, like e-mail adresses in forms I use quite often.
In cCleaner I have NOT ticked "Saved Form Information" in the Firefox section
And in Firefox itself "Remember Search and Form History" is turned on....
Still, I must be doing something wrong.... ???
