  1. Giving on terms is still giving?

So if I give you 50$ on the terms, that you give me 100$, is it still giving?

If I give you a Big Mac, on the condition that you give me your first born son, is it still giving? :P

No. That's called offering to trade ... and I don't see MrG doing that.

But even in trade ... people should accept or decline graciously. No one is entitled to another's property.

  2. CCleaner is only free as in beer, you cannot inspect its source code and inner workings, you cannot modify it, etc.

Since the download page says "The following builds are for system admins and advanced users.

They are not for distribution or mirroring.", I am not even sure you're allowed to distribute anything other than the toolbar-bundled version. So much for free, eh?

    Freeware is a gift.

The giver offers it on their terms ... and why shouldn't they, it's their property.

The receiver, only has two options ... accept or decline, and in either case, should do so graciously.

  3. and my solution is

you can format and use someone elses key, all you have to do then is call MS and tell them your details and they'll activate it for ya :D

??? Did you mean "use someone else's CD"? Using someone else's key would be illegal.
  4. Uninstalling the old version using Add or Remove Programs will leave behind a folder (in this case C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_08 or older) which should be manually deleted.

  5. You didn't say what app provided the power meter so there's a slight chance CCleaner may be partially at fault.

It's possible that your battery may be charging but you are getting a bad status report.

I once had a laptop where the utility that provided enhanced battery information (stupidly) required a file in the temp folder. If you have a similar setup, and you cleared the temp folder ...

  6. anyone know why XP doesnt have it but on 95 and 98, it does?

im looking for something that works over a network without having to install any programs.

Windows XP Professional Edition has EFS (Encrypting File System) but Home Edition does not.
  7.

... She can maintain a 'good' signal throughout her house and on her back porch, but loses signal when she goes to her boat dock about 150' from her porch.
Most wireless access points have connections for two antennae. If hers does, consider using an omni-directional antenna for general coverage and a directional antenna pointed specifically at the boat dock.
