"it's only 11 years old"
You know what Middle Age is, right ?
I think saying Win98SE is in the computer Middle Age would be right.
And using IE6 make all webmasters go crazy because they have to do sites working on an outdated, not standards-compliant browser, still used by ~ 1/5 of people.
IE6 is a little bit better because its simpler

ur right

Honestly, I made my own program to keep WGA off and shut it up. I like the HOSTS element because it's very clean

Can someone give the link to the winsys2.ini, sorta like winapp2.ini with a big list of apps
Thanks

Whats your favorite "Skin" here at Piriform Forums?
1/CCleaner Style?
2/Piriform Style?
I recently started using "CCleaner Style" and found it easier on my eye's, especially after an hour or so.
A "Skin" with similar colors to (Zune Style) would be nice
Piriform 2009 is the best, personally

I checked my updates, and I didn't find anything on the list that said Windows Genuine Advantage. Guess I don't have it installed after all. Plus, I haven't been prompted by Windows Update to install it either.
Checked it with your tool you posted too Dennis, and it said I didn't have it. Also, the website of the tool doesn't host the tool anymore because of this:
So I downloaded the tool from somewhere else and I uploaded it. If anyone wants to download it, here's the link: Click here to download it!
My advice for you guys is to get yourself out of the legal- hot water and just add these entries to your HOSTS file.
# Copyright ? 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.## This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.## This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one# space.## Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.## For example:## 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host127.0.0.1 localhost#Prevents WGA from phoning home127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com #for XP/2003127.0.0.1 sls.microsoft.com #for Vista
Also to Augeas:
What's all the fuss? I have WGA installed by those kind MS people when I went to SP3, but there's no tray.exe, no notifications, no nothing, no anything running. I didn't have to disable anything. Mind you I don't have auto-update on so maybe that's the difference. This tool replicates spyware so there are some ethical issues behind it, and the tools main process is to check your hardware hash with product key that's activated with windows. So, if you do a hardware upgrade on certain elements of your system, the hardware hash changes and WGA complains. Usually, it depends on your luck
Also to Dennis:
Nice dock and backround!

Wouldn't it be cool if CCleaner worked on the iPhone/iTouch, and cleared cache, history, etc?

Have a look in add/remove programs list and have 'show updates' box ticked at the top.
It will say this update can't be removed

I tried renaming and deleted WgaTray.exe but it wouldn't allow you because its in use. You disable it in Task Manager by the time you've closed Task Manager and gone to Windows\System32\WgaTray.exe to delete it had started up again. That new info from M$ wasn't available then.
Did you unregister the dll?

I am quite shocked to say this, but i think recuva had something to do with a crash on my computer. I started getting a SMART error about Reallocated Sector Count. Now using active@ disk monitor i have a 2% health

"Noooooo ! Seven is bad ! Change is bad ! I did not test Seven but it is bad because it is from Microsoft !!!!!!!!"
Everybody should update to Vista / Seven, and not simply listen to self-proclamed computers gurus / people making other OSes saying they are bad.

"Noooo! Microsoft said it ! They are liars !!!!!"
Three points of Vista
1) UAC
2) Legacy Apps compatibility
3) Vista= More than 6 versions, XP=3ish versions

XP SP3.
Some people complain about how many errors on there computer they have and they use windows ME. Just making sure you aren't using a messed up os

Same as what Keith and Dennis said, but i'm pretty sure its a backdoor trojan that is imitating NTDETECT.COM. I had a similar issue with a process WINLOGO.EXE ( No typo) imitating winlogon.exe

Its a load of s**t. I have a genuine hologramed CD which I've had for years and it says mine is counterfeit and you can't uninstall it using the normal method.
It doesn't make you life miserable you just don't trust M$, just have to do a system restore to get rid of it.
We have talked about this on here before, do a search.
Keith, its your lucky day, check these instructions out here

Vista's graphic subsystem requires 256 mb RAM, which is a lot more than some would like
Edit: I wish they could support XP and Vista like they did for NT and 98

XP Home SP3. I do have Vista, but I'm not installing it anytime soon. I don't like it that much.
Downgrade option?

I have Win95B, Win95C, Win98SE, WinME, Win2k, WinXP 2002 SP2 and guess what I prefer?
Vista is too memory hungry thats why you need a minimum of 2GB for it to run.
You have about every OS there is!

That was Intel's Hyperthreading Technology. It (sort of) simulated having a second core, allowing programs to take advantage of it. Read up on it here: Wikipedia: Hyperthreading

Yeah, that's it because when I boot up there is the little HT thing on the side of the pentium 4

Does anyone know why Windows Genuine Advantage has the 'Advantage' in it. To me it seems that if you have a non-genuine Windows, WGA makes your life miserable.

I am running Windows XP SP3 and CCleaner v2.18.878, 4GB RAM. The problem is the header shows that system shows as running 2.5GB RAM. Can this be corrected?
Do you have a 64-bit OS, thats probably the cause. CCleaner is 32-bit and 32-bit won't recognize more than 3.5 GB memory.

Bored with Vista's boring startup? Try this trick
Cool, no?
Edit: This trick disables the current vista loading screen at boot sequence with an aurora of lights
