  1. Bored with Vista's boring startup? Try this trick

Go to start->run msconfig and go to boot.ini and click /noguiboot, apply, restart

    Cool, no?

Edit: This trick disables the current vista loading screen at boot sequence with an aurora of lights

  2. Sometimes when i have my system on mute and i watch a flash video, i try to unmute but a message pops up and says no mixer was found, the program will now close. Yet i have a mixer and sound does work most the time

  3. "it's only 11 years old"

You know what Middle Age is, right ?

I think saying Win98SE is in the computer Middle Age would be right.

And using IE6 make all webmasters go crazy because they have to do sites working on an outdated, not standards-compliant browser, still used by ~ 1/5 of people.

IE6 is a little bit better because its simpler

  4. Whats your favorite "Skin" here at Piriform Forums?

    1/CCleaner Style?

    2/Piriform Style?

I recently started using "CCleaner Style" and found it easier on my eye's, especially after an hour or so.

A "Skin" with similar colors to (Zune Style) would be nice1%20(46).gif

Piriform 2009 is the best, personally

  5. I checked my updates, and I didn't find anything on the list that said Windows Genuine Advantage. Guess I don't have it installed after all. Plus, I haven't been prompted by Windows Update to install it either.

Checked it with your tool you posted too Dennis, and it said I didn't have it. :) Also, the website of the tool doesn't host the tool anymore because of this:

So I downloaded the tool from somewhere else and I uploaded it. If anyone wants to download it, here's the link: Click here to download it!

My advice for you guys is to get yourself out of the legal- hot water and just add these entries to your HOSTS file.

    # Copyright ? 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.## This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.## This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one# space.## Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.## For example:## 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host127.0.0.1 localhost#Prevents WGA from phoning home127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com #for XP/2003127.0.0.1 sls.microsoft.com #for Vista

    Also to Augeas:

What's all the fuss? I have WGA installed by those kind MS people when I went to SP3, but there's no tray.exe, no notifications, no nothing, no anything running. I didn't have to disable anything. Mind you I don't have auto-update on so maybe that's the difference.

This tool replicates spyware so there are some ethical issues behind it, and the tools main process is to check your hardware hash with product key that's activated with windows. So, if you do a hardware upgrade on certain elements of your system, the hardware hash changes and WGA complains. Usually, it depends on your luck

    Also to Dennis:

    Nice dock and backround!

  6. I am quite shocked to say this, but i think recuva had something to do with a crash on my computer. I started getting a SMART error about Reallocated Sector Count. Now using active@ disk monitor i have a 2% health :(

  7. "Noooooo ! Seven is bad ! Change is bad ! I did not test Seven but it is bad because it is from Microsoft !!!!!!!!"

    <_<

Everybody should update to Vista / Seven, and not simply listen to self-proclamed computers gurus / people making other OSes saying they are bad.

"Noooo! Microsoft said it ! They are liars !!!!!"

    Three points of Vista

    1) UAC

    2) Legacy Apps compatibility

    3) Vista= More than 6 versions, XP=3ish versions

  8. Same as what Keith and Dennis said, but i'm pretty sure its a backdoor trojan that is imitating NTDETECT.COM. I had a similar issue with a process WINLOGO.EXE ( No typo) imitating winlogon.exe

  9. Its a load of s**t. I have a genuine hologramed CD which I've had for years and it says mine is counterfeit and you can't uninstall it using the normal method.

It doesn't make you life miserable you just don't trust M$, just have to do a system restore to get rid of it.

We have talked about this on here before, do a search. ;)

Keith, its your lucky day, check these instructions out here

  10. I have Win95B, Win95C, Win98SE, WinME, Win2k, WinXP 2002 SP2 and guess what I prefer?

Vista is too memory hungry thats why you need a minimum of 2GB for it to run. ;)

You have about every OS there is!

  11. That was Intel's Hyperthreading Technology. It (sort of) simulated having a second core, allowing programs to take advantage of it. Read up on it here: Wikipedia: Hyperthreading

    AJ

Yeah, that's it because when I boot up there is the little HT thing on the side of the pentium 4

  12. When I ran devmgmt.msc on my XP machine, it stated that i had 2 Intel Pentium 4 3.00 ghz CPUs. I have not upgraded the computer to 2 CPUs so is there really 2 CPUs

  13. I am running Windows XP SP3 and CCleaner v2.18.878, 4GB RAM. The problem is the header shows that system shows as running 2.5GB RAM. Can this be corrected?

Do you have a 64-bit OS, thats probably the cause. CCleaner is 32-bit and 32-bit won't recognize more than 3.5 GB memory.
