  1. Could be some configuration file for it. Personally I'd find where the extension is installed and input an exclude into CCleaner for that path, next I'd find any configuration file for it (if it has one) and I'd also exclude that.

That's similar how things have to be done in Chrome based browsers for some extensions so that CCleaner doesn't remove the configuration for them such as adblockers.

  2. In the meantime perhaps reboot your broadband modem and see if that remedies anything.

As for you giving Panda a try you'll have to have Microsoft .Net Framework v4.0 already installed and with all security patches for it applied before attempting to install Panda. If you do try it I'd highly recommend making a system image before changing your current configuration since it's known to fail allot during install, and it's also known to fail during registration.

  3. FileHippo is known for placing ads that will confuse people into downloading the wrong thing so what you're reporting is already known by many on this forum - it's nothing new since it was reported on here years ago by people duped into downloading the wrong thing. That kind of ad placement trickery (or deception) can very easily happen on download sites if you don't use an adblocking extension in your web browser such as; uBlock Origin, or Adblock Plus.

The safest bet is to bookmark and only download CCleaner updates directly from Piriform at:

  4. I can't use Avast at all due to it being incompatible with Sentinel HASP License Manager.

In Panda Free Antivirus if I try to manually invoke an update it will cause the service for it to crash and freeze the Panda GUI, and then it also causes Windows to freeze for several minutes before it's responsive again -- the crashing service gets logged in Event Viewer. If Panda is left to do everything all on its own there's never an issue.

Some of the antivirus' that state they still support XP don't really act like it sometimes.

  5. You can already do this, however not as you've detailed it!

Go into 'Options > Include' and then input the paths to folders you want CCleaner to always delete the contents of, such as user created folders.

    Example:

    1. For a working example I have a user created non-system default "Temp" folder(s) on all of my hard disks (C:\Temp, D:\Temp, E:\Temp, L:\Temp), etc., for one purpose which is to move files into when I want to securely delete whatever resides in those folder paths which I have an Include for and if/when I decide to enable any Secure Deletion mode located in 'Options > Settings' (not Drive Wiper, and not Wipe Free Space).

    2. Then when running CCleaner with Secure Deletion enabled it will then proceed to securely delete the contents of those specified folders -- which also includes anything else already covered by default by the program.

    Edit:

Of course there's many freeware standalone programs both portable and installed that can achieve this without jumping through so many configuration hoops to make it work with CCleaner. If has been asked for before on multiple occasions to have the ability to right-click a file or folder to have CCleaner securely delete it.

  6. Has the most recent FF version (54) been really laggy and locky uppy for anyone else?

Might be due to any add-ons you have installed. I know from experience if any add-ons are installed that have an overlapping features that can cause issues.

  7. What Windows operating system?

When programs that Wipe Free Space freeze or crash a computer, or are forcibly exited they can cause some damage, sometimes it causes the hard disk to be deemed in the RAW format.

If your version of Windows has the ability to use Windows Recovery Console it may be able to rescue your system. For example I know in Windows XP with the Windows Recovery Console installed the sort of damage that deems a hard disk in the RAW format can usually be easily and quickly fixed.

This search may interest you, that is if your hard disk is in the RAW format (which you'd need to determine from what the boot screen states, or what a possible 3rd party bootable disk utility may state):

  8. Well they are two completely different programs. Imagine CCleaner deciding to clean when installing something that uses the Temp folder, but it's also the responsibility of program installs that are using the Temp folder to notify the user to restart the system.

  9. I have personally seen what companies do when they buy out other software companies just to make a dime or two

I will not bring up names or software

That's why I'm waiting too see what happens as actions will be louder than any words, or posts on forums.

Not mentioning names a totally different situation I remember from years past (but not too long ago) was when a big antivirus company bought out another antivirus company which I suspect was corporate cannibalism to kill the competition, sure they let them live for awhile but eventually that bought out company was out of business and dead along with their software and website - what a shame.

  10. First they took Clippy, now it's Paint.

    Where will it end

When they get rid of everything, then those blank black Win10 screens will be permanent.

I think it's good that they'll make it available, sometimes to just fix something simple it is still handy versus loading some bloated program with a ton of plugins, etc.. In my opinion it's a very daft move putting it on the Windows Store since it literally takes up hardly any space. Although Paint.net is the perfect replacement!

  11. I'd just love to be a fly hidden on the wall in both the Piriform offices and Avast offices because other than their blog posts I don't see much more information being sent our way to the Piriform community.

It's been a good run on here since 2004, however hopefully some other privately owned and maintained cleaning software will blossom without a huge corporation behind it.
