  1. Razz, I did the same thing by right clicking a picture in a powerpoint slide, then selecting copy, then pasteing directly into mspaint. Then paint allows to save it in several formats. Saves a step.

Works when you have a powerpoint file with the .ppt extension and set it to "slide sorter view". Using Powerpoint 97.

If you do change the extension from .pps to .ppt, you get a warning popup, but the file will work either way: .ppt or .pps.

Thanks for the info login, will try that next time.

Note: I am submitting a post with a link to my photo gallery of "amazing pictures". Worth a look sometime.

  2. Because it was a slide show and only proceeded to next slide at the click of my mouse, I got around my slide screen capture issue by simply using Prt Screen and saving the image to Microsoft Word, then I performed a screen capture using MWSnap3. MWSnap3 is an excellent screen capture app. but as far as I know cannot be used with the Prt Screen button.

Dennis...I will check out FastStone Capture - thanks for your note.

Aethec...it had the extension ".pps" and changing the extension to .zip did not work.

    Thanks all for your input.

  3. Lulu, so very very sorry to hear about your Dad. Life sure is not fair at times!

Like login123 said, any words seem so inadequate at times of deep sorrow like yours.

I wish you and your Mom the best in years to come.

  4. Hi all, I must be asleep because I can't find the antivirus comparative list that indicates Avast as one of the best AVs currently on the market. I wanted to show this to a computer tech guy that is arguing with me about Avast. He claims Avast is lousy and naturally I know that he must be crazy.

Any of the links to a study on AVs that mentions Avast 5 would be helpful...like I said, I must be asleep because I can't locate them.

    Thanks!

  5. One of the biggest improvements I think I've seen with any program update. Works well on my system, and uses a lot less resource than 4.8.

A definite yes to the update question.

    I agree 100%

  6. Hi ident. I have no idea why you would be having trouble with Avast 5. Since my install I have had zero problems and Avast is working better than ever.

Perhaps your install was not clean.

  7. I did a clean install of Avast 5 last night. Before the install, I used an uninstall utility from Avast to get rid of Avast 4.8

    ( Avast Uninstall Utility ).

This did a great job and Avast 5 installed with no problems. It's amazing how much less it uses in resources compared to 4.8.

  8. I was reading this review and thought some of you may find some of the facts interesting.

James Cameron's passion project, Avatar, is the most expensive movie in 20th Century Fox's history. And, if the official figures are ever released, it could possibly be the most expensive movie in film history. But Cameron knows a thing or two about delivering movies that sell, having created the biggest grossing movie of all time. Titanic brought in $1.8 billion worldwide, a figure most people believe will never be surpassed. But those people haven't seen Avatar.

Avatar is the event movie of the decade, a film you absolutely must see in theaters - in digital 3-D - to believe. Cameron employed technology created just for Avatar, and the end result is a groundbreaking, spellbinding, brilliant piece of art

  9. Razz thanks for that, I took your advice and had a look, WOW I picked some very interesting SW. I shall certainly add to my list of "visit occasionally"

    Good looking web site also.

Glad you found it worth your time Tasgandy.

  10. You can expect a couple of ports to be opened by certain services and applications; 135 for example.

But if you're running a stealth test and these are coming up as hidden then that's pretty healthy. Steve Gibson's site has a good port check ... follow the Shields Up links and do a scan of 'All Service Ports'.

Thank you marmite for reminding me about Steve Gibson's site - I used to frequent this site but forgot about it lately. I executed the 'All Service Ports' scan and all ports tested showed as stealth.

  11. From a security point of view I pick Windows updates automatically, which usually sorts out the critical stuff. Other software updates are very rarely that critical that they need to be picked up immediately. If there is anything like that I'll usually be aware of it via other sources anyway.

I agree and I do the same.

  12. I recently changed my firewall from Zone Alarm Free to PC Tools Firewall Plus (one of two firewalls to recently score 100% - Review). To test my new firewall I performed a "Quick Test" from PC Flank. The test revealed 3 visible ports on my system. Is there an easy way to close these ports or should I not worry about it?

The Stealth Test reported that my firewall passed 100%.
