  1. My hard drive crashed, and I had to get a new hard drive. I am trying to restore the system image and files I backed up from the old HD. I can restore the files from the external backup drive, but I can't get the system image restored. Has anyone else had problems doing this? Any suggestions?

Update: got it resolved. Had to reformat the drive

  2. My WD Raptor HD has my OS on it. It won't boot up, appears to be seriously hosed. I installed the OS on my second HD, made it the boot drive. While both OS show up in the bios the crashed drive does not show up when I boot up in the other HD. Is there any software I can get to recover the data from the crashed drive? My OS is Windows 7.

  3. Newegg has a couple of old agp cards still:

    HD3450

They had a few for $30 but I think the HD3000 series cards can still use the newest ati drives, which means windows 7 should work just fine. They had a HD4000 but it was $70, I'd buy a new motherboard/cpu first as it would have graphics about as good or better.

The HD3450 pins on the bottom, where in plugs into the mobo, don't fit my mobo. They are laid out differently than the 9800 pro.

  4. This table should help - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units

NVIDIA have many different cards but for AGP the best ones would be series 6 or series 7 (8 and 9 are PCI-E only).

When choosing a model number higher the 2nd digit the better the card's spec i.e. 6800 vs 6200.

The 6200 is a good graphics card (I'm using one) but it's not really suitable for high performance games, of course a lot would depend on which games you want to play.

If money wasn't an issue I would recommend the 6800 or a series 7 card with at least 256MB of RAM (for texture storage).

The mobo requires an AGP Universal Graphics card, and is not compatible with the AGP 2x graphic cards. The 6200 is the only compatible card I've been able to find, unless I want to get a refurbished ATI 6800 Pro.

  5. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, dual heads, 8X AGP card that is going back. I'm looking for a replacement (AGP card) that will have essentially the same power draw, and that will play nice with Windows 7. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know how the EVGA GeForce 6200 card compares to the 9800Pro in terms of performance?

  6. I finally got it fixed. uninstalled flash, booted into safe mode, cleaned out the registry, then booted back in regular mode. I then restored the IE Advanced settings and reset the settings (for the second time), rebooted again, and then re-installed flash. That finally did it.

  7. Ugh that drives me nuts! But that rarely happens to me. If it does I just leave the site and find something else to do. I'm not trusting some unknown site to give me their "Flash".

Responding to one of the earlier posts - to be clear, the Disney website was working with Flash before - so there is something wrong now with Flash.

  8. I have the latest version of flash player, both computers are windows 7 - 64 bit version. Both have IE 8, both show the add on as enabled. On one computer, i downloaded IE9 for a couple of days, and then decided to go back to IE8. Since going back to IE8, flash shows as installed and appears to work on the adobe page but does not work on the disney.go.com page. I used the flash uninstaller, and then re-installed several times. Didn't help. Any ideas?

  9. I have the Office 2010 beta installed, and in particular have been using the Outlook 2010 beta. I am ready to buy the final Office 2010. Can I install it over hte beta, or do I have to uninstall the beta? If I have to uninstall, how do I transfer or save the email messages and contacts from the beta version into the final version?

  10. Santa brought me a gift card to NewEgg - I can finally get the HD 5750 graphics card I've been waiting on.

I've been looking at the Sapphire ones, but a Visiontek one just showed up in the last couple of days. Are there any quality or performance differences between the Sapphire and Visiontek brands?

  11. I assume from that end bit that people are telling you to get the 5770 instead, which really is a better card for only $20 more. Just check out the benchmarks:

Those 2 you posted are going to perform the same, the vapor one looks like it has a better fan though. You won't notice a difference between the two.

Actually, I wouldn't have minded if people were suggesting the 5770. What I was getting was a variety of suggestions for the 4870 and 4890!

  12. I'm considering these Sapphire cards from NewEgg. One of them has reviews, the other doesn't (as it just came out very recently). Does anyone have either of them? Has anyone seen reviews on the second?

Just to end off the replies I received on another forum - I have made the decision to get an HD 5750. I am NOT looking for suggestions regarding a different series of cards.
