  1. Just drift slightly off topic here...Hi Brenda, you're back. So you're not sitting in front of a dead computer.

    :D

    Hard to believe but yes I'm here and with more questions, what a surprise :P You guys are better than a husband ;)

  2. Thanks! I downloaded LiveWire and yeah I'm concerned about copyright infringement and when I installed it, it asked me if I wanted to download only the legal ones (have no idea what they mean by that) or any that are available. I covered my caboose and chose the legal ones only. Anything has to be better than that Imesh hell.

  3. Everytime I open the program I get this icon. Please see pic. How do I stop from doing that? When I open pics it also comes up, ie: I use thumbnail option to see pics that same file will appear saying thumb something.ini. Please advise

  4. Thanks unsober, I'll go and check because the error message came up again when I rebooted and I didn't have the add/remove window open

    Oh snap you're right, it's there..but it doesn't tell me if a checked program is being removed or added. I don't want to mess anything up

  5. Well, when I ran it, Andavari had forgotten to tell me that I had to make a restore point. I don't know which ones or if I did disable because I was told when I rebooted after using the program, that I had to put it back in normal mode, which I did. Hope that made any sense at all..lol

  6. If ProcessLibrary.com doesn't give enough info or good info about a startup entry just leave it alone - I should've stated that in the first post, and I should've told you to make a System Restore point first too - I'm slipping, sorry!

    There's also search engines like Google.com to search for some stuff that "may be listed on other websites," and don't forget Microsoft.com as well as they "may have KB articles" about startup files and why they're needed, and if they can be safely disabled or not.

    Edit:

    I just noticed in another thread here were TonyKlein listed a couple of sites with startup lists.

    Sweet, I'll check out what you suggested. Thanks!

  7. Great program!! But how do I (technically challenged) know what is necessary or not. It doesn't really tell me. It says "safe" "unknown" and a description of the program.

    You can input those .exe file names into a search site called ProcessLibrary.com. If it has info about the file it will tell you if it's necessary to have running or not. See a screenshot of a scan I did. Note: Ignore the Run a Free Scan on that site, it's an affiliated advertisement.

    Of course you can disable some startup programs with Windows' MSCONFIG which allows you to very easily undo disabling a startup program versus just outright deleting it's startup:

    Start->Run->Type in: MSCONFIG

    In Windows XP Pro services can be disabled using (just make sure you don't disable stuff you aren't sure of):

    Start->Run->Type in: services.msc

  8. I have 18 to 20 processes running depending on the machine.

    The first thing I noticed was the insane amount of CPU Maxthon is using. Maxthon uses no where near that on my Machines. Usually Maxthon is at 0 CPU for me.

    Oh really? Do you think doing what the previous poster did will help or is there someway you can not have it use so much CPU that you know of?

  9. I tried to take the screenshot of the message right on the desktop, but this is what i've been getting lately when I boot up my pc. I'm not sure if I asked this already. I really don't use that program so if it has to go, then it'll be fine. Thanks in advance :)

  10. Who stole from you?

    Here is the deal: You said you hated being banned from places. Well I hate it when I ban someone and they keep coming back over and over. Not that you did but I figured by your post that you were other places. Basically we have a conflict of interest here.

    Also most of the time when someone wants to "hide/change their IP address" its because they were file sharing and now they are afraid of being caught. I have no sympathy for those people. :)

    Anyway, have you seen this link?

    Oh no it's nothing like that. I paid for half of a board upgrade to vbulletin, she bought some girls in from another board (I didn't know she knew them at the time) so I did what i had to do and defended the board and its members tooth and nail. They walked all over everyone and the owner of the board (I never had admin privilidges or was a mod. I did it because I knew her for a very long time and it was my pleasure to help out with the upgrade) It was weird that she wasn't speaking out or saying anything nor her mods or co-admins. So after I cyberkicked their a**es, a couple of them went to the admin and said I was threating with emails and stuff like that, she knows I don't do such a thing. I don't threaten, I go to your crib and do what I gotta do. So, because these are supposedly a "very popular group of ladies" like we're in freakin high school, and she wanted to fit in so badly, I got banned without warning, reason, or anything.

    I opened a PayPal dispute but since there were no "goods" involved and she kept saying it was a "donation" I got screwed. I want my money back. I don't want my money going towards a board I'm not associated with anymore. If I would've left, it's a different story, but I was banned and I need to get her information to report her. I know her personal information but I need to get more. I don't know if I'm going to get anywhere with it, but I'm sure as hell gonna try. I felt scammed, how convenient that after the board upgraded these chicks came along. She knows I'm generous. I'm pretty sure it was some kind of initiation. Why grown women act like this on the internet is beyond me, you'd think it was real life, unbelievable.

    Regardless, I do no appreciate being spoken to in that tone without you knowing the whole story, and even if you did, I do not appreciate being spoken to in that tone. I understand your issues, but you don't know me and cannot judge or assume things without simply asking. I would've gladly told you this story. I'm just a mommy of 4 that has no life, I don't have time to play games on the net, I just want my money back.

    ETA: Thanks for the link :)
