  1. Sorry for not getting back to you before.

It is safe to delete Firewall Rules that reference invalid files in your system.

For all the files you said no to go ahead and remove the Firewall Rule.

    Thanks

Sorry, but I am a bit confused about your "For all the files you said not to go ahead and remove the Firewall Rule."

I said NO to the folloiwng, but I do not see Invalid Firewall Rule for them. At least I don't think so.

    C:\Windows\System32\netproj.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\ONENOTE.EXE = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\PCMService.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\Kernel\DMP\CLBrowserEngine.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\Kernel\DMS\CLMSService.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\acs\AOLDial.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\acs\AOLacsd.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\1263138576\ee\aolsoftware.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\AOL 9.5\waol.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\TopSpeed\3.0\aoltpsd3.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\Loader\aolload.exe = NO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\System Information\sinf.exe = NO

Can these 12 items be removed also. Even the 1st one - "C:\Windows\System32\netproj.exe"? It seems like an important file?

This is all so confusing to us beginners since we don't want to disable our Win 7 (64-Bit) computer by removing a file that might damage the computer. Several people have told us not to delete any Registry entires the NEW CCleaner is reporting.

Hope you understand. Thanks for your help, consideration and patience.

    Alice

  2. AliceZ, please let us know if the following files still exist on your computer:

    C:\Windows\System32\netproj.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\ONENOTE.EXE

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\PCMService.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\Kernel\DMP\CLBrowserEngine.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerCinema\Kernel\DMS\CLMSService.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\acs\AOLDial.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\acs\AOLacsd.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\1263138576\ee\aolsoftware.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\AOL 9.5\waol.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\TopSpeed\3.0\aoltpsd3.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\Loader\aolload.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\System Information\sinf.exe

As a suggestion, you can use Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder and see if the file is present.

    Thanks

Did I answer your question? Did I give you what you needed? Do you have any response?

  3. The Reason he asked this question was to answer your invalid firewall question.

He asked specifically about the files mentioned in the Firewall rules.

For all of the ones you said no to, it is ok to remove the corresponding reg entries for (including the invalid firewall ones)

example you stated that you do not have onenote on the drive in that location so it goes to say without a doubt that you do not need a firewall entry, thus it is perfectly advisable to remove

    2. Invalid firewall rule {B16523A4-2023-4662-9D6F-ECD4EFA4055B} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\ONENOTE.EXE HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules
    3. Invalid firewall rule {C1537D4C-1010-400C-8156-8E8C5D26BF71} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\ONENOTE.EXE HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules

Same with all of the others that have a no file install and an invalid entry.

So I can delete all of the 50 (plus) "Invalid Fire Rule" entries that are listed on the Win 7 (64-Bit) and on the Vista (32-Bit)?

Please bear with me, I am new to all of this.

    Thank you.

  6. I guess no one can tell us what we should do about all the items being found when we did a Registry scan.

Especially the "Invalid Firewall Rule" ones, as reported in our original posts on this thread.

Does anyone know if anyone from CCleaner reads these posts and whether they are aware of all these files that are being found in the Registry scans, especially on the Win 7 (64-Bit) and Vista (32-Bit).

We really don't know what to do about all the files found and what to do with files that will be found in the future.

It was so easy using the previous versions of CCleaner; now, it is so frightening.

I wonder if anyone can respond to my previous question regarding the "Firewall Eules" exceptions that were found after a Registry Scan with the newest CCleaner on our Win 7 64-bit computer? We've been told that removing any of these files that were found, could cause problems with this Win 7 computer.

  8. It is better to uninstall, preferably with RevoUninstall to supplement the cleanup.

I understand (from Revo) that their removal program is only functional for 30 days.

Is that correct? And after 30 days we would have to purchase it or another program, etc.?

    --

  9. I'm surprised so many people are putting up with the newer versions showing all that reg data to remove with so many forum posts about "is this safe?", I'm using an old known safe version. Anyways onto the firewall rules; I'd personally open up Windows Firewall and manually myself deal with "invalids" for software I know I've removed, I wouldn't dare let any cleaning tool mess with one of the security features of Windows - paranoia or not it's just what I'd do.

What version of CC are you using? I think it might be two versions prior to this current one I am using (3.05.1408). Is it 3.0.1366? When we didn't have all these problems with the Registry Cleaner? If we did download that 3.0.1366 version and clicked on the exe would it overwrite the current 3.05.1408 we are now using?

(P.S. We are using PC Tools Firewall (on the Win 7 64-Bit, Vista 32-Bit and WinXP computers) and we can't find any mention of AOL in the Applications.)

    Alice

  10. Because for now I share the concern ➷

How do you share same concern? Do you have Win 7 64-Bit? Or do you have a lot of Firewall files showing in the Registry scan?

Don't you do a Registry Scan any longer?

  11. Yes, I'd ignore 'em by unchecking ☐Obsolete Software. That's a tad easier than excluding them.

After all, 51 items are such a small amount in the registry big picture.

    Thank you.

May I ask why you would UNcheck the "Obsolete Software" and not just delete them? As I mentioned, the majority of them refer to the uninstalled AOL program. Or are you thinking it would be better to uncheck the "Obsolete Software" because deleting them might "screw-up" this Win 7 (64-Bit) computer?

We also show practicaly the same thing on our Vista (32-Bit) after a CC Registry Scan. I guess you would say to UNcheck the Obsolete Software in the Vista also?

This is all so very, very confusing for us beginners.

I guess we should NEVER look in the Registry again (with CC) or DELETE any items from it with regard to our Win 7 (64-Bit) computer and our Vista (32-Bit). Just let that Registry section "build-up" with items the Registry scan finds.

    Thanks again

    Alice

  12. Alice, if I were in your slippers I'd ignore them cos leaving them in the registry will not affect performance. That's safer and will avert future hassles and headaches. They're not worth the angst.

Why not simply add them to your Exclude list? :)985ydw.jpg

I was mainly referring to the many "Invalid Firewall Rules" files that have shown-up after the removal of the AOL. Are you saying to "ignore" all of there There are about 51? As I said, if I uncheck "Obsolete Software," all those Firewall items go away.

Here are just a few of them that were found on the Win 7 (64-Bit) computer after the new CC version was installed:

  13. I am also getting many, many "Invalid Firewall Rules" when I run the Registry scan (with new CC version). The majority of them refer to AOL which I removed from this computer. Can they be deleted? If I uncheck the "Obsolete Software," and run another Registry scan, those "Invalid Firewall Rules" files go away.

I've been told be a few people that since I am using Win 7 (64-Bit) that it is (would be) unwise to remove ANY files that CC Registry Scan finds, as it might "foul up" the workings for Win 7 (64-Bit) and other programs running on this Win 7 (64-Bit) computer.

I am confused as to what to do.

Does anyone know, for sure, if these "Invalid Firewall Rules" can be removed on a Win 7 (64-Bit) computer? I don't want to remove any Registry entries that would cause impact on other programs on this computer!

(Before these recent CCleaner version updates, I never had or saw all these files after a Registry scan!)

Can anyone offer any help? I am expecting that the files in the CC Registry scan continue to increase in the future.

  14.

Did you really delete AOL ?

It is better to uninstall, preferably with RevoUninstall to supplement the cleanup.

If you simply used Windows Explorer to delete the AOL folders then the registry would be left with an awful lot of junk,

    e.g.

    ...C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\aol\acs\AOLDial.exe HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\services\....

I used the Control Panel / Add/Remove to uninstall the AOL.

Is there anyone who can tell me if any of the files I listed may be deleted, etc.? Or do I just leave all those Firewall items as there are (showing in Registry scan)?

As I mentioned above: "If we uncheck "Obsolete Software," most of the entries go away. But we don't know if we should keep that "Obsolete Software" unchecked, or whether we should keep it checked and delete all those Firewall files. Can someone please help?"

I am new at this and that is why all the questions!

    Just very, very confusing!

    Alice

  15. Ever since installing the new(est) version of CCleaner on my Win 7 (64-Bit) computer, I have seen so many entries in the Registry scan.

We now have 3.05.1408, but all of these Registry entries began showing with previous version.

Never saw so many with previous versions.

I've been told it would be unadvisable to delete any of the Registry entries found because CCleaner is not "compatible" with Win7 64-Bit and therefore might delete some files that would prevent the Win7 64-Bit from functioning and therefore "ruining" the computer.

I am at a loss as to know what to do. We recently deleted AOL from this computer and that is why there are probalby so many "Invalid Firewall Rules" showing in the scan. Can they be safely deleted? If we uncheck "Obsolete Software," most of the entries go away. But we don't know if we should keep that "Obsolete Software" unchecked. Can someone please help?

(We also notice practically the same thing on our Vista (32-Bit) computer (the Invalid Firewall Rules" at least are showing.)

The latest (Win 7 64-Bit) scan shows the following:

    ============

Can any of these be SAFELY deleted?

    Alice

  16. I apologize to Alice if the question I made on my previous post was irrelevant to what he/she was asking. The thread was entitled, "New CCleaner" so I thought I could post any concern I have relating to this new version of CCleaner on this thread because I don't want to start up another thread just to ask about that one simple question anyway which is where do I find the option to clean obsolete firewall rules.

I don't wanna start up a whole thread if I am just to ask a simple question just to keep things tidy on this forum.

No problem and my apologies for mentioning it.

  17. Well, there's no reason why he shouldn't, it's an open forum. Ishi's response was relevant, and the title of this thread is so generic that anything could be posted here.

I was just asking a quesiton as to why someone would post a question on my thread ("What I cannot find out is where do I clean those obsolete Firewall Rules, blah blah blah.") that dealt with 'Firewall' and not with my original quesiton?

I remember posting a quesiton on someone else's thread a while back and I was told I should have started my own thread, otherwise the originator of the thread would be getting email notices for anyone who posted another question on his thread, and not dealing with his original question. My question at that time was deleted and posted as a seperate question on a new thread.

And that is the reason for my question and I apologize for not knowing the "rules of posting" for this forum.

    Thank you,

    Alice

BTW: What could the title of my thread have been to make it "not generic?"

  18. AliceZ just run the installer as per normal, it will install over the top of the already installed version and completely update it. The CCleaner on your hard disk is no different from the Standard installer and Slim installer, the files installed are identical!

Just untick what you don't want installed. Remember that there can be a delay in the installer so don't click through it too fast as that's how people can accidently end up with Google Chrome being installed.

    Edit:

If you already use and have Google Chrome installed it won't even offer Chrome to you!

    Thank you.

I did download the CC 3.05.1408, on the Acer netbook WinXP. The only thing I saw that I had to uncheck was installing a ToolBar. Nothing about Chrome, etc. (We don't have Chrome on the Acer!)

    #1- Did I miss something?

#2- What is Tools/Drive Wipe? What does Drive Wipe do?

    Please advise and thank you.

    Alice

  19. Thanks

Wow! A lot to digest now.

If we do download the new INSTALLER version for all our computers, will it over-write the old (slim) version as it did in the past? If that is true, will we still be able to un-check the "stuff" we do not want to install, such as tool bar, etc.?

Or, in order to do that (uncheck the extra crap) will we have to uninstall the old version (on all computers) and install the new version as a new program?

    All so confusing.

(I am thinking CCleaner will be losing a lot of old friends.)

  20. It has never come with the main version - always a few days later.

You CAN use the main version and UNCHECK the optional extras.

    Thank you.

There appears to be only an INSTALLER version and a PORTABLE version at this time.

#1- So, if we wait a few days, the SLIM version would appear for download?

#2- Would the INSTALLER (or SLIM) version work on our WinXP; Vista and Win 7 (64-Bit) computers?

Only one download version for all of these computers?

  21. I had installed the 3.04.1389 version and was having a lot of entries (mostly OPEN WITH) that were showing up when we ran Registry cleaner (so much more than previous version). This happens in our WinXP, Vista and Win 7, 64-Bit computers.

Has the new verson "corrected" the Registry scan so all of these items (Open With, etc.) do not keep showing after the scan? Does anyone know?

We always downloaded and used the SLIM version for many years. Now we notice there is no longr a SLIM version. Which one would we have to download? We don't want any extras, such as toolbar, etc.

    Please advise.

Thank you all. Will now have to discuss with my friends and decide what we want to do.

(As I mentioned, this Registry issue on appears to be happening on my Win7/64-Bit computer and also on friend's Vista (32-Bit). WinXP compuyter seems to have no problem with the Registry issue.)
