runaway, please forgive the tone of my previous post. It seems to have come across stronger than I intended.
Maybe I misread how much importance was being placed on numbers and a name, when we both know that neither are really that important.
My intention wasn't to offend.
I understand Dennis, it's just one of those misunderstandings that happen from time to time when you're writing to someone instead of actually talking with them face to face. It's cool.
I think you're one of the nicest people I've meet at this forum so far. You've always been polite, courteous, and extremely helpful to everyone. Actually, everyone has been absolutely terrific.
BTW, you were the first person to respond to my first post here too. hehe.. Thanks for that

I'm not suggesting anything at all, and you can read into my comments anything you like.
We all have the opportunity of voicing our opinion on here, and I'm stating my opinion of something that hasn't actually been discussed before.
And I can't understand why this should seem to agitate anyone.
There's a lot more to be gained from a community like this than how many posts you've made, and what name you have under your avatar.
I agree 100%
I'm not agitated either. I was just trying to figure out what you were referring to. It seemed as though you were suggesting that the administrators gave people their ratings/status. I was just voicing my opinion too (like you) when I said I didn't think so.
Have a nice day

I am posting this with IE7 and IE7 Pro and IE Spell is also installed. I am obviously quoting your post. In line spell check for IE7 Pro is not high lighting misspelled words. When I check spelling via right click context menu there is no "check spelling" option for IE Spell. The other options for IE Spell are present though. The tool bar button for IE Spell works.
You have to be in a 'writing text box' in order for the 'check spelling' option to be present. If you're just reading a post the only options are as follows:
-----
ieSpell Options
Lookup on Merriam Webster
Lookup on Wikipeda
-----
When you're are about to write a message the 'check spelling' option will appear.
Edit:
I don't have IE Pro, I just have the regular IE7. I have no other browsers.
-
That spell checker problem has nothing to with this picture problem.
OH OK, I thought it might be related since opera seems to be the only connection.
-
Just so you know and there is no misunderstanding, I am using the spell-checker now, here today and it's fine. It's always been fine.
-
How do you explain that it doesn't work with IE either?
In your case I don't know. I just know that I don't have this problem and I have IE7 with no other browsers on my machine. That's the only difference between me and Hazelnut and you. BTW, there is another person with opera that's having right-click spell checker problems. It seems he can't make it work on this site. It's in the lounge under browser problems.
-
No, I think Dennis just means it's the forum "rules" that decide it, such as 50 for power member etc.
I guess it's just a sort of recognition for people who stick around the forum and contribute towards the atmosphere etc.
Oh OK
I see I just made the 'Advanced" status.hehe
-
Just seen this, runaway, your picture doesn't show for me either.
It's looking more and more like a browser issue. Someone just said they were having trouble using their spell-checker on this forum. They have Opera on there machine too.
-
You use IE Spell and the "check spelling" option works in right click context menu? This works for you no matter how you reply to a thread?
Yes, that's right. It works anywhere in any text box, online of course. I just right click and have several options, I can either spell-check one word or the entire document, or Even look up a word on Webster dictionary, all with a right click
Edit:
I don't usually use the fast reply option, but I have before.
Here's the IE spell-checker add-on I use.
-
Well if you are using IE7 without IE7 Pro you won't see an issue. If you had IE7 Pro you would be able to see the in line spell check not working properly. Do you use Opera,?Maxthon,?Firefox at all?
Do you use IE Spell with IE7? If so try spell checking with the right click context menu. It's not there in the options.?You?have?to?use?the?tool?bar?button.
Also I specifically mentioned "fast reply". There are several ways to respond on this forum. "Fast reply" is one of them. Everything works well in that option. I think most people use that option and may not notice the problem.
Yes I use an IE right click spell-check and it's working fine. Everything is. I've used both ways to respond and both are fine.
Edit:
No, I don't use any other browsers other than IE7. I only have IE7 on my machine. I wonder if having two browsers on your machine would cause the problem.
-
Didn't worked with IE7 either. Having 2 browsers should not affect.
EDIT: Can't go to that site with IE7 either. Clear your cache and try then go to that site. Maybe you can now go, because site is cached.
I just cleaned the cache and restarted IE and it's still just fine.
I think we're messing up this desktop topic with our discussion, let's take it to PM.
Sorry everyone for the inconvenience.
-
It doesn't show up. Neither with Opera or IE7.
That's strange. Do you think it matters if you have 2 browsers on your machine that it might affect it in someway? Hazelnut has opera too and had the same problem as you. She couldn't see my pic of the webtv on the 'Avatar' topic in the lounge, but everyone else could. I've had absolutely no problem viewing everyones pics here. I'm using IE-7 with no other browsers on my machine.
Edit
No the sites fine, the picture is showing up right now too. It's a browser issue.
-
The fact that it's on all my machines and all my browsers and only on this forum makes it clear to me it's a forum issue not my machines.
It must be frustrating I'm sure. The only problem with your theory that it must be a "forum issue" is that I've never had any of those issues. All works fine.
I'm using IE-7. The Regular IE-7 not pro.

runawayhorses: Your picture doesn't open. I checked that it's linked to http://www.wtv-zone.com. Maybe there's a problem with that Web site. Does anyone else got problem with that runawayhorses picture?
No there's nothing wrong with the site it's working fine.

I think it's a sort of OK way for the forum to give some sort of recognition to the amount of time and effort someone puts into being a member.
By that are you suggesting that the administrators 'DO' give recognition to the amount of time and effort someone puts into being a member? It sounds like you're suggesting that's how the rankings/Member status are tabulated. If that were true, it would certainly shoot down the 'amount of posts' or how long someone has been a member theory.
-
It's not about the amount of posts, it's about the quality of posts. Though don't say, that my all post are quality ones.
If what you say is true, then who is making this "quality" judgment call? Is there some invisible man watching over everything we say? I would have a -0 if that wre the case.lol
I actually think it has 'everything' to do with the amount of posts and the amount of time someone has been a member, but that's just my opinion, of course.

I think that skin manager thing works in the same way, and as such I'd guess it doesn't work in IE7 either (plus the fact its not been updated in 5 years)
EDIT: Seems IE7 isn't really skinnable as I suspected: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...515564&st=0
Yeah I just read it too. That's too bad..oh well. Thanks for checking into it for me.

I wasn't aware IE was Skinable. I know Tweak UI has an option in it to change IE's tool bar back ground but that doesn't work on IE7. Other than that I don't ever remember seeing a skin for IE.
I changed my theme to Windows Classic and selected slate as my color and it changed the whole color of IE's UI and changed the tab bar quite bit. Thats as close to skinning IE as I have come. Here is a shot of it.
Hey, that looks really nice!
I've known for awhile that IE was skinable, but this is the first tool I've seen that will do it with such ease. It's too bad the Tweak UI tool doesn't work for IE7. I would've looked at that one first, as I have another Tweak tool that works really nice. This one looks easy enough and should do nicely though, I hope. I want to get some skins before I dive into it. I've seen several IE-skin sites already, but they're just so full of ads and junk, I just don't want to bother with them. I'm hoping to find a good selection and user friendly site. Some places just want to give ya their spyware if you know what I mean.

I've downloaded a small utility that will change the skins of Internet Explorer with one click. Only problem is now, I need some skins!
It came with one BMP format skin, but I want to get several others to choose from. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

If you read futher back in the thread, I already tried IE7, no joy, just one of those little computer mysteries.I did read your post in thread, that's how I knew you had IE-7. Your cache in IE-7 might need to be cleaned was my suggestion.

Test your browser for vulnerabilities: http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/
Scanit's Browser Security Test automatically checks your browser for various security problems.
Just ran a test with my Opera 9.22. It did 40 test and 0 vulnerabilities found.
It keep wanting to run active x controls too many times so I left.

No, I didn't, if anyone can think of anything I'm willing to test any ideas.I would try switching to IE-7 then clean my cache and cookies with this sQusi then reboot and try again. There's really no logical reason that it shouldn't work unless there are more serious problems.
This forum does strange things to browsers

Oh I see, did you just download it today?
I have no idea why it's doing that.
