johnd37
Why doesn't CCleaner completely removed user tracks from my pc. I have a secure file deletion at Gutman setting. But when I run Recuva scan a whole list of stuff is found. Why is this?

But when I run Recuva scan a whole list of stuff is found. Why is this? Hello John, CCleaner only cleans and secure deletes files that have not been deleted by some other method, whether manually or by another program. This explains why Recuva finds so many deleted but not overwritten files. If you want to wipe old deleted files then you can use Free ERASER 5.7 is used by some members.Be advised to use only version 5.7 . It does take awhile to run, sometimes several hours. It all depends how many files and how big the Hard Drive. http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/download.php ONLY version 5.7 from source forge ONLY.This is important. EDIT Vista users will have to use a later version. Good Luck, davey P.S. ONE (1) overwrite is sufficient for anyone unless they are a spy.More overwrites mean longer run times and more wear and tear on your hard drive. MDRedwood
Dear Davey, Please may I ask why version 5.7 rather than the later versions? I've used the search function to find a reason on this forum and on the eraser site forum, but couldn't find out why. See this thread as to Why we only recommend 5.7 for now. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=97526 In this thread you will also see a link to another product REVO that many other members are using. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=97489 You can also improve your "searching" on the forums by following this fun link. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=99958 Good luck, davey Edited April 23, 2008 by davey

Or if you've run Recuva anyway why not just use that to secure delete the files it finds (tick the checkboxes on the results, right click and "Secure delete checked items")
