eMule

Is anyone here who uses eMule able to guide me through setting it up?

 

I've tried asking for help on the eMule forums but they just send me to the help section, which doesn't make any sense to me.

 

They talk in jargon and seem to assume the user has a knowledge of the terminology they use.

 

I - on the other hand - am a complete novice and don't understand it.

I can try to help you, but I am not much good at being a teacher here. I was able to finally get mine all set up. I'll post later as I have to go out now, but I will try to give you the steps in setting it up.

OK, couple of questions. Are you using a router, and if so, what make and model is it. I need specifics.

 

 

As well, what kind of internet connection do you have? Is it dialup, cable, dsl, ?

This application installs eMule by a setup routine interactively, containing all languages and help files

 

This is a website that you will need if you are using a router, because you will need to set up a Static IP and will have to "forward" ports:

Bookmark that page as it is handy and you will be using it with eMule.

 

So I guess the first thing no matter what is to download eMule from the site i suggested above. And then install it. We can go from there.

Oh I should have added, just double click on the eMule icon when it is finished downloading and it will start to unloading and installing. Enable all options (except languages if you dont need them). I will help you along with upload/download speed configuring, etc. later.

 

The first thing is to install.

 

The second thing is to set up a static IP (if you have a router).

 

The third thing is to set up port forwarding (if you have a router).

 

The last thing is to configure speeds, which folders to allow uploading from/to, and security functions.

 

Its a great application once you get the hang of it.

I can also send you a few more sites with some good eMule tips, but I dont want to overwhelm you with it all-I know how confusing it is at first!

Hi - thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.

 

I've downloaded eMule and I've got a router. But when you start talking about "static IPs", that's when I get lost. I'm not sure what that means.

Yep - I uninstalled eMule and reinstalled it via the link you sent.

 

My router is a Medion MDWLAN 140
