Defraggler speed zones

Super Fast

Recommended Posts

While Defraggler 2.11 added move folder option, it also is confusing for some users. Is it moving files to the slow part of the drive? Medium? Fast?

Would love to see a Defraggler tab that allows a user to:

-> Browse for file or folder, -> Place into: Low/Medium/High speed area of the disk.

It would be far simpler to just include a tab with drag & drop, where a user can drag files/folders into speed zones.

Since Windows files are the most critical to performance, it would be nice to be able to set Defraggler to move ALL Windows files into the high speed zone, followed by user files, followed by free space.

Currently, Defraggler moves files, but it mixes the program, user, & system files together, so you encounter "File Fragmentation", or that is to say, Windows must jump across user file to access system files, & that can be as bad as mixing free space & mixture of files.

Some files are 4+ GB, & that is quite a jump. Windows files rarely change, so putting them in the high speed zone will reduce the need for defragmenting, & help keep the drive running fast, since the usual way of things working is user files keep getting fitted around Windows files & having to be relocated.

Sure, some system files update from time to time if Windows Update is turned on, but it should stay mostly fragment free if you can place all system files together at the fastest part of the drive, then place user files directly behind that, then free space.

Windows files grouped together at the high speed of the zone is the fastest you can get, & it will keep the drive fast, reduce wear, & reduce need for re-defragmenting.

I have long been tired of having a system file separated by a 600 MB ISO file, or a home movie that is 16 GB separating the next system file by that amount & slowing me down. And that is what happens when Windows files are thrown together with user files in a random pattern.

P.S. If you add a tab showing the drive divided into 3 equal sections, with Green for high, Orange for medium, Red for slow area of the drive, users will be better able to see what files are in what zone.
