Windows Explorer Details View is Failing

writeaway

Recommended Posts

Kinda desperate here. I've always used the Comments field/column in Windows Explorer to keep notes on files. It is hugely helpful to me with my hundreds of files. Recently, I discovered that my notes are disappearing when I make a change to a file and save it.

I clung to SP 2 for as long as possible before I installed SP3. Did Microsoft take out the ability to use the Properties dialogue box for anything useful? If that is the case, what can I do to salvage my hundreds of notes? Is there some software out there that will allow me to make notes/comments in a way that I could see the information in Explorer? Is there an Explorer replacement that I could use that will give some way to write a description of my files?

Thanks.

I've not used this myself but there is a software mentioned on this page that I have seen mentioned elsewhere

Also might consider sitting down and spending some time restructuring your folders/file names

Thank you hazelnut for answering. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I understand how adding comments is done. That's what I've been doing. What I was trying to say is: It isn't working anymore. Once the Date Modified is changed, the metadata is deleted.
