srkriston
I have yet another question.... :-) So just when I think that I have found all of the files that I am looking for, I realize that they are all shortcuts and cannot be opened. Why would Recuva find the shortcuts but not the originals? Also, I read that when files are sent to recycle bin and then deleted from there, they are renamed in the process. Is there anyway to locate the new file names since using the original file names does not seem to help? Thanks!
Moderators Augeas Posted June 25, 2009 Moderators Share Posted June 25, 2009 There's no particular reason, from Recuva's point of view, why lnk files are found and not the originals. Files deleted to the recycler are renamed to Dcnn.ext in XP (nn is an ascending number) and $Ixxxx.ext and $Rxxxx.ext in Vista (xxxx is random chars). I think that the $R files contain the data.
