how often to use defraggler and CCleaner

G'day guys,

I installed and used Defraggler and CCleaner a few days back after a recommendation in Sharethefiles

and found they both worked fine with no hitches. Was a bit slow first time but this was expected since

my PC has had little (or none!) maintainance for a few years.

Thanks to those who took the time and effort to put them out there.

A question though: What time intervals would you recommend for

1. defragging

2. cleaning

3. registry cleaning?

weekly, monthly yearly?

Thanks for any thoughts,

A8

Welcome amber888

This has been discussed previously but this is what I do

1. defragging

Before Windows Update and after or after I have installed or removed software

2. cleaning

I clean the hard drive once per day with CCleaner and the LCD screen with a very lightly damp lint free cloth about every 6 months plus I turn the keyboard over and gently tap it to remove dust

3. registry cleaning?

Before Windows Update and after or after I have installed or removed software

1) Never (well, once in three years is statistically never)

2) Twice a week, or whenever I have around 50 mb to clean

3) Every few months I poke around and remove the blindingly obvious errors and leave the rest alone

Hi

I run CClearer every day and I run registery cleaner every day.

I run Auslogic disk defrag every day.

I have to say that I'm a little Monkish about me computer but I run stuff that pushes my computer to the wall all the time.

Right now that I Tomb Raider 8.

A new computer is in the works after the holidays.

  • 2 weeks later...

1) About once a month. As of the last build though it takes it around 10 minutes just to move a .MP3. :-(

2) Every restart. I added a shortcut to my startup folder with the following:

"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /AUTO

CCleaner runs in the background during login and exits itself out when it's finished. Haven't had any problems from that yet.

3) Generally just when I'm doing some spring cleaning, removing outdated programs and what not.
