That seems to have cleared it thanks. Like others, it seems to have happened after a W10 update, but we'll see if it returns later!!

I run the Pro version as administrator and it clears the desktop recycle bin (in W10) but notes there is 9.8Mb in the "System- Empty System Recycle Bin" and says it is cleared. But if I repeat the same process again it comes up with the same statement suggesting it is not being emptied. I have done this several times 0n different PCs (all running the same software) with similar results. It says the System recycle Bin has been emptied but clearly hasn't been.
