  1. Don't they have anything better to do other than copy a perfectly good program and run it off as their own?

The reason why AVG licensed this product from Auslogics was due to Kaspersky regularly bundling TuneUp Utilities with their Internet Security, in UK retail.

In the UK, you'll get AVG PC Tuneup 2011 for *free* when you purchase AVG Internet Security 2011. I think this is a UK-only promo though. We'll have it online in the V3.co.uk Software Store by the end of this week, all being well (read: providing AVG delivers!).

    Chris.

  2. I'm not sure if anyone uses AVG here, but I thought I'd post this, just in case.

Thanks for posting Icedrake. It took AGES to get that promo signed off and finalised.

AVG is still popular. AVG Free receives, on average, 1.5 million downloads every week on Download.com, as an example. The commercial version has more functionality than Free.

  3. Hi,

We've not given away any full software for a while, so pleased to say we've secured four full apps in August, with one top tier-1 security app to follow late August.

This Friday we're giving you the full current BitDefender Antivirus 2010, worth $24.95. You can download from the V3.co.uk Software Store: http://store.v3.co.uk

If you're interested, I'll update you all for the forthcoming full apps. Hopefully we can tie down that tier-1 security full app, tomorrow.

  4. I got Paragon HD Manager 8 when it was offered as a free download a couple of years back and still use it to this day, well worthy of grabbing while its available as a freebie:

    ~LINK REMOVED~

    Oops. Yes you can:

    http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/222...disk-manager-se

The terms were written to imply that people shouldn't link directly to the download exe. It happens all the time, sadly. A blog writer will say 1) go to this URL to register, 2) download from here (direct link) etc.

Everyone is welcome to go to the landing page, but we wanted that to get the hits, in order to show Paragon it was worth giving away as a free download! They were really hesitant.

  5. I greatly value the opinion of you guys, so I would like your comment on the following:

I currently have Iolo System Mechanic 6 and thinking of upgrading to System Mechanic 8, but I am not 100% impressed with these products. I also find, from my experience, that Iolo customer service/support really sucks.

I was wondering if there is anything on the market that does similar tasks to System Mechanic 8 which you would highly recommend.

Iolo were/are doing a 60% off promo over the weekend, so a good time to look at SM 8. The coupon code was 'iolo10' through checkout. No idea if it still works though.

I also use Tune-Up Utilities 2008, which is pretty darn good. Both very similar apps though.

  6. I use Macrium Reflect Free and Drive Image XML and don't pay a cent.

True, but the deal is a no-brainer. Two commercial products, retailing for $79.99 for only $9.99. Some people have been buying to sell on...I think.

On a sidenote, we'll be giving away Paragon Hard Disk Manager 8.5 SE on vnunet.com in October. Deal already done. Waiting on the banners etc.

  7. Thank you for that link. :) Looks like a good deal. Wonder what it means "Type: function limited demo " on the offer page? Have you tried it yet?

The 'function limited demo' applies to the actual download. If you download the trial version, it won't enable you to actually backup/restore your drive or partition. You need to buy it to do that.

It's the same as Registry optimisation tools. The trial version will enable you to see if you have anything that needs optimising, but won't optimise until you buy.

The Acronis True Image 11 for $9.99 deal ends at the end of this week. We found a better deal where you also get Disk Director 10 for free. Both products for ?6!

  8. You all seem like very knowledgeable people when it comes to PC tools etc., so I would like your opinion on the following:

I currently have System Mechanic 6 and I would like to know if there is much difference with System Mechanic 8 (i.e. Is it worth spending the $19.95 to update)?

Again, thank you all for your time!

Quite frankly, System Mechanic 8 is superb. The previous 7.x wasn't too hot, primarily as it was released as a Vista tweaking tool, shortly after Vista, which led to various conflicts with the new OS. However, 7.5 came out at the end of last year and recently v8.x

For ?10, it's no brainer. Indeed, I managed to get a 2-year license for ?14 recently with their 60% off promotion.

  9. After a rather long full system scan it does give a false positive against an ERUNT file named ERDNT.E_E, which is ERUNT's file copied to the registry backups folder and is used to initiate registry restorations.

Thanks. I'll pass on anything I find.

    Chris.

  10. I'll give it a whirl as I like some of PC Tools software products.

PC Tools have gone release mad recently - a whole host of updated apps in the last few weeks.

I think we've got another couple of full promos up-and-coming in the Autumn. I'll let you all know when/if!

  11. Apparently, BurnAware has been sold to BurnAware Technologies. They now have three versions of BurnAware (Express, Home and the new Professional) -- each with a more realistic pricing structure. It also looks like the life of the free version may be limited, but it is still available here.

No, I don't think it was 'sold'. They just used a clever marketing ploy to giveaway a free version (which was always available to download through the burnaware.com domain) to encourage users to use their software. To stop supporting the free version, they've simply renamed the company and are now using the burnaware.com to host their site, too.

    Chris.

  12. Um, err Chris, it's linking to East-Tec Backup 2007.

Can this app create images of the operating system?

Oops!! It's meant to be East-Tec Backup 2007. East-Tec Eraser is coming online later ;)

This isn't a disk backup tool. It's a file backup tool. So, if you're seeking a drive backup tool, Acronis True Image or Paragon Drive Backup is your best solution.

    Chris.

  13. I always see old versions of graphics programs being offered so that the vendor can email with special upgrade offers, but never for Paint Shop Pro.

Oldversions.com has the trial offer downloads, but nothing for free.

    http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=psp

Nope, neither JASC nor Corel did or will do any full commercial promotions. We once got as far as discussing it with someone high up at Corel in Canada, for it to be quickly dismissed a couple of weeks later.

So, the answer is no, there have never been any legit full previous promotions involved Paint Shop Pro.
