  1. I downloaded CCleaner 3 days ago and ran a clean. Cleaned recycle bin, TIF's etc but when I clicked on my browser History (IE7) all is still there?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled cclean several times with same result. All the boxes are checked!! I have Windows Vista basic and still have 3 days worth of sites visited showing on my browser history.

    What's up?

    Hugh

CCleaner usually does everything it says it will, but for some reason the latest version is a little "broken". I'm not sure if it's only with Vista or not.

In any case, you can open the Tools menu in IE and use the Delete Browsing History function, for now, to clean up your IE7 History. You can even clean the index.dat file, but a restart is required for that (I think.)

  2. Just found your program through CNET Download and had a lot to clean up on this multiple user computer.

I leave my user name and passord in effect and remembered for online newspapers (NY Times, Wash Post, local). After the scan and repair/delete, they were all wiped clean . Is there a box to "uncheck" for the next time I run the program that will preserve these or is it a matter of finding each one?

    Thank you

In options, under Cookies, there's a place to tell CC to save desirable cookies.

  3. I'm running Vista home Premium.

If I run a cleanup using CCleaner 1.39 maximized, it causes a "CCleaner has stopped running" error. But if I use the "CCleaner.exe" /AUTO" shortcut on my desktop, it runs fine and causes no error.

    Here's the event:

Faulting application CCleaner.exe, version 1.39.0.502, time stamp 0x461fbd15, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bdc9, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00091978, process id 0x8bc, application start time 0x01c781c88626670b.

  4. Not via keyboard or R-Click/Delete kind of deleting.

The folders are related to system restore, If you know what that is and are sure you want to empty all but the latest (Run Disk Cleanup Windows Utility -not CCleaner- click More Options, under Syetem Restore section click Cleanup) or disable system restore see this.

If unsure just leave system Restore alone unless you are cleaning up after a virus/spyware infection that has backed up into the restore folder, or understand the implications.

If you're running Vista, you can't even look into the C:\System Volume Information\ folder. (Maybe you can with UAC turned off . . .)

  5. I've just had two of my laptops usb ports die on me leaving me with just one working port. So I decided to buy a usb hub as I obviously need to connect more than one usb device.

I bought this one as it was cheap  :

Problem is my broadband modem won't connect through it, theres absolutely no data signal at all from the modem when its connected through the usb hub (the data light on the modem doesn't so much as flicker). There IS power to it and the hub powers other devices no problem just can't get internet working through it.

Anyone any suggestions? Am I likely to have problems with other usb hubs if I get another?

Do you have external power to it?

    * With high power consumption USB devices an external power supply might be needed
  6. It still doesn't fix this bug in Vista Ultima 64-bit: CCleaner still can't repair all registry errors.

It doesn't seem that CCleaner is shredding in Vista.

I tested this by moving a 100mb file to the recycle bin, and then running CCleaner (set to NSA 7 passes, just for testing). The file gets deleted from the Recycle Bin, but it's way too fast for writing 100mb 7 times as evidenced by my disk activity light. This feature used to work for me under XP.

In any case, CCleaner is still a great tool!

  7. Your browser should have its own 'clean on shutdown' (IE, Opera, and Firefox do). How could CCleaner detect this unless it was running in the background waiting for a browser to shut down? Like I said, not very important since the major browsers already have this feature.

If you set a browser to "clean" cookies on exit, they clean all cookies, including the ones you tell CCleaner to save. ;)

If I set Firefox to clean up everything except cookies on exit, there's still a bunch of stuff left over for CCleaner to clean, otherwise I wouldn't be running CCleaner everytime I close Firefox. :P

Additionally, if it's "not very important since the major browsers already have this feature" then why does CCleaner have browser cleaner options?
