  1. You all bash Norton cause of you having to pay for it..and it being a resource hog...at least it WORKS! Windows Live OneCare is utterly abysmal when it comes to protecting your PC...it was the lowest scoring product in a bunch of tests...I actually read the article somewhere online...that's why it is dirt cheap...because no one wants to buy it.

Windows Defender is actually pretty good. I use AVG Anti-Spyware on top of the other two..but this is the wrong section to post in....so I'll end my commments here.

  2. Dude...I know a lot about computers...I overlooked that...but the point is I was double-checking...I was 95% sure that with the Caps-Locks indicated a fake email, but I was making sure that I didn't miss something going around. I knew such a virus was all but ludicrous, but I wanted to make sure. My home PC's are ridiculously clean (at least I would like to think so :D) and I trust the members on here for their advice.

  3. I run WinXP Home SP2 with IE7 with several Tabs open plus Outlook Express, WinPatrol PLUS, Windows Defender, AVG Free and Creative SoundBlaster Audigy2 applications all running and I see from TaskManager that the RAM utilization is only 75% so that is plenty RAM for me as I don't run Games.

I do have 1GB on my AMD system as it is only half as fast as my P4 system.

Only 75% ?!?!?! My page file usage hovers at 450 MB (while doing nothing), and I have 2 gbs of Crucial Ballistix installed. I flip when I start going over 50% of my RAM being used, unless I'm running like 3 applications.

@CeeCee - What Jago is trying to say is that it is more common to have two identically sized modules of RAM. This comes into play when you have DDR/DDR2 RAM to get the extra boost from the identical modules.

  4. Robbie if you have a Windows XP reinstallation CD, you can use that. if you don't, I think you can also order them online for pretty cheap

I don't like Vista, I will never use it. I'll stick with XP

You have to be careful with that...especially with drivers...some hardware has been having trouble when people have wiped their harddrives and gone back to XP. If you know what you are getting, try to find XP drivers for it, just to be sure.

On Topic - I'm sticking with XP on my Dell, but when I build my own rig, whenever that is, I'll consider Vista.

  5. I haven't had problems with Defraggler on either of my two computers....you should be fine, but you should have a back up just in case something fails.

PS - They do read the topics...but they are constantly working on the programs...creating and improving 3 freeware titles that are ridiculously popular is not easy, especially when you they survive by donations.

  6. Alright...I've noticed for a while now that I can't access some things with some sites. Here's what I mean:

    • YouTube - I can't access the beta site (The flash thing) - on either of my two computers. I have everything updated - in both IE and Firefox
    • AOL - With the actual program, on my newer Dell, I can't cycle through the top news stories, while my older machine (Win2000Pro) I can. When I try, it just brings it up in a new window, and I still can't do it.
    • Webshots - On my Dell, the online uploader won't work..I had to download the Webshots Desktop program - which I like..however, to change the profile picture album, you have to do it through the online uploaded...and my other computer allowed me to access it.

I believe this is an Active X issue, but not totally sure. Is there any help that anyone can give me?

    Thanks,

    AJ
