@Winapp2.ini I think the proper way to name entries should be based off of their names in the Start Menu, which is how we had it and what other programs do. Someone has recently started changing those names and is damaging all the hard work I, and other people here, have done.

Sure, here is another statement. How about a bunch of AppCache**.txt files? Have you opened one of them to see what they have in them?

Deleting these .txt files from that location in Cortana doesn't break Cortana. Have you tried this yourself? If I had control of the Winapp2.ini file, like you, I would test each and every entry myself.

Looks like there is a Tsunami in this thread. Why do we have to add "NVIDIA Corporation/NV_Cache" location in all the Microsoft Store apps? NVIDIA Shader Cache (NVIDIA Corporation/NV_Cache) files get created into "%LocalAppData%\Temp" and some apps' Temp folders. We already have Microsoft Store apps' Temp locations covered in the app entries. NVIDIA Shader Cache does not target all apps. If someone is having NVIDIA Shader Cache files created in other locations, there is some thing wrong with their NVIDIA driver installation. Program names should be shown in the same way they are shown in the Windows Start menu or the Windows Uninstall section. The Weather app shortcut in Start menu is Weather and in the Windows Uninstall section, it is listed as Weather as well. So the proper name is Weather. This is the same case for the Camera app, for which the name in the Microsoft Store is Windows Camera, but in the Uninstall section and Start menu, it is listed as Camera.

The Microsoft Store Weather app is listed in Start Menu as "Weather". So I think the entry name should just be Weather.

Why not? I already mentioned that some of the traces in those entries are locked and cannot be wiped. Not all programs leave error logs in Event Viewer.

I’m not taking it personally, but it’s hard work. Some people here make smaller things seem much bigger, without understanding the context behind it. All known privacy cleaner programs wipe these traces in Windows Search. These traces can hold all search related things, which is a privacy concern.

@APMichael Like I said before, CCleaner can't wipe some of the traces in the entries listed below successfully because some of the traces are locked by Windows or programs similar to MS Search. Let's remove all of these. We are making a mistake removing FileKeys related to Search Stream logs and Search Indexing traces. They hold information about searches.

The programs I mentioned in my previous post wipe the traces and then restart the system to wipe files locked by Windows or other programs.

Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, some Microsoft Store apps, Cached File Extensions, Compatibility Assistant, Delivery Optimization, Fonts Cache, Icon Cache, Jump Lists, LocalService, LocalSystem, MS Search, NetworkService, Power Efficiency Diagnostics, Push Notifications, Windows Error Reporting, Windows Logs, Windows ShellBags, Windows Subsystems, Windows Update and some built-in CCleaner entries require the system to be restarted to wipe those traces successfully. If we take these entries out from CCleaner and Winapp2.ini, what will we have left? On one hand, you have Winapp3.ini to destroy programs’ functionality and on the other hand, you cannot accept entries that won’t break programs’ functionality, but just require a system restart to get them to work properly. By the way, I always wipe PropMap and SecStore in Windows Search and I have never gotten any errors related to Search in Event Viewer. The only time I get errors in Event Viewer is when I try to wipe Windows.edb from Windows Search.

[MS Search *] entry does not work as expected because some of the files require the system to be restarted to be wiped and CCleaner does not have that option. This entry works fine in Windows Safe Mode. I think all of the FileKey’s and RegKey’s in the current entry should stay. These traces should be wiped including PropMap and SecStore. All known privacy cleaner programs, like R-Wipe & Clean and east-tec Eraser wipe these traces. Entries or part of the entries that require the system to restart should not be moved to Winapp3.ini just because of this.
